Yes, the legal age of consent is around 16 - 18 years (This varies by state). They make some exceptions to this (for example, if the partner is also underaged or within a certain span of years.) And there are some states with multiple codes addressing the issue, some of them highly contradictory. But a general rule of thumb is, unless you yourself are a minor under the age of consent, avoid anybody who is under the age of consent.
Also, avoid even talking to anybody online who might be under the age of consent. (Some states actually make it illegal for people to send anything over the Internet that might be interpreted as "having the purpose of gratifying the sexual desires of the perpetrator or the minor.")

Wow I commend you had I been in your situation at your age, I probably would have done nothing but encourage her to go to the police. Assuming she is telling the truth, she is carrying to much of a burden on her shoulders for her age and I commend you for helping her out.

I heard a case a while backof charges being brought up against a 15 year old boy for having sex with a 14 year old girl. It wasn't even like there was a year between them because they were both freshmen so it probably is more like a difference of months. Now that is something that I just consider just stupid.

Well... The guy was taking advantage of her. She gave in to him because she didn't want to lose him, and was "in love" with him (Yeah right...) The age of consent in Hawaii is 16, and the boyfriend can be accused of statuatory rape (I looked up the laws) I should also add she lost her virginity very recently, and thought that since her BF wouldn't ejaculate in her, she would be safe (Yeah right... Kids never pay attention to the important parts in Sex Ed.) I spoke with my school counselor, and they gave me a phone number to give to her if she needs help or just somebody to talk to. They also suggested that I notify her school's counselors, which sounds like a course of action I will take.

Um, just thought you people would like to be updated.
She got an abortion before I could act. I've talked to my school counselors a few months ago, and they recommended contacting her school, which I did. Sent a lengthy letter, but no response yet... I'm going to be trying to contact them again soon.
I just talked to her tonight, and it seems she's doing well. Seems to be happy, has a new boyfriend (Which I'm hoping isn't going to turn into a repeat of the last one.) who has been introduced to her family. Her parents? I still have no idea how they are, but it seems she has good relations with them. She has a therapist now, so it's getting better.
Crisis adverted. Now, when I find that ex-boyfriend of hers...
The abortion really was the smartest choice. Young girls have the decision-making capacity of goldfish.
I've known girls who have just SCREWED up their lives by getting pregnant at a young age and assumed that being a mom will be just like it is on TV or when they played with their dolls.

Why don't you give some sort of evidence to back up this claim? An embryo doesn't resemble a human in any way, and it has no brainstem or sentient thought processes. Explain how killing it is any different from killing a mosquito.

I was only saying that a girl needs to think about her future first. In the case an abortion was best, but it is not allways possible (laws/parents might be opposed).
