Slim to nill. The Big E is supposed to be the "federation Flagship" the best and most awesome ship in the fleet. Always pushing the frontiers and exploring crazy new shit. Something that small probs wouldn't have the endurance.

And besides, it looks like a cross between a Defiant and a runabout, not a great and powerful explorer

I think your design looks pretty damn good. But something about the saucer looks just a little too blocky for my tastes.

Disagree. I think you're both on crack. I feel like the saucer section integrates quite nicley into the design. It's just the right amount of old-school Enterprise and new-school design. It's shows a very good understanding of the evolution of the ship. It's not such a radical departure as to make it ZOMG ENT-J and not so conservative as to be "Oh look, ENT-A w/smooth *snore*"

For me it's a toss-up between Calloway, Brooks and Fuzzy_Modem's designs - though the coolness of an actual physical model to look at puts FM's over the top, I think.

I've read through the rules maybe a dozen times now, and I'm confident that the "Assets" that may not be used elsewhere are existing Star Trek assets, like if you wanted to use a sovereign for scale. The "Submission Image" must be created originally for the this contest specifically, but the rules say nothing about posting it, or wips elsewhere afterword. Now that the submission period has closed, I can restore my wip images to this thread. I couldn't find them all, but you should still be able to see the design evolve. Thanks again for all your help

3 Decades isn't that much. Are you suggesting it belongs in the same time as the Enterprise C?

"ugly assed" isn't a useful critique for an artist. Perhaps you can describe it in either aesthetic (shapes, shading and lighting) or logistical (engineering and construction) terms?

I believe you are fully capable of communicating effectively without being insulting. I also believe you haven't tried yet, which is unfortunate, because I would appreciate a good critique, and you might have something valuable to say. I'd appreciate it if you'd give it another try.

I like Schimpf's as well. It's lovely, though it seems like it would fit into an alternate ToS universe (an alternative to Abrams), rather than post TNG.

That was better, and the excelsior reference makes sense given your perception of it's place in the timeline. "Inelegant" is a very good descriptor. Thank you

Can you elaborate a little more on the connection between the saucer and engineering hull? It's an aspect this worries me at times, because it's rather unprecedented, depending on how you look at it.

Rather than mounting the nacelle struts on the saucer, I'd like to think I've back filled and consolidated the area between the neck and struts. Would you concur?

I suppose the way I look at it is that the top of the neck is still part of the engineering section that then intersects both the saucer and nacelle struts, rather than being engineering below saucer below nacelles, but I may not have illustrated that effectively. Should I have pushed the saucer forward (possibly shrinking it slightly) and indicated a more significant seam or distinction between the hull shapes?
