How are you guys finding ships by design entry number? The search doesn't pick that out...

Yeah I liked this one too Knife. It's got a really solid aesthetic to it. It the only one that I noticed that has some definite Robotech/Macross influence going on.

Man navigating the entries is a pain in the ass. So far I haven't seen anything I like more than fuzzy's.

Yeah it's a horrible setup. On the link I posted, 1335 is the last one on the right on the little preview plane thingy.

God, I hope there are a lot of little kids submitting.

I like 869. It has more grace than Fuzzy's, though Fuzzy's is pretty good too.

1398/1401 looks like it may have something going on, but you just can't see enough of it. I wonder if the guy meant to submit two views and instead accidentally entered the same one twice.

I fail to see why that makes it a bad design. It's not marvelously creative, but that doesn't mean it looks bad.

Winner is announced in April. It's gonna be a loooong wait...

And here I was wandering into the thread to get the vote link again. Kickass, Fuzzy, here's hoping!

Well you won, I don't see how they can justify overriding the vote. It's not like a pencil sketch from a five year old won or some frat boy entered the Penisprise and got his campus to flood the votes, which is more than likely what the 'override' is for.

You gotta get pictures up of the model you get as soon as you fucking get it! :D

It occurs to me that Calloway would have performed better had his votes not been split between two entries: http://www.startrekonline.com/enterpris ... d=Calloway

He is both 4th and 30th in "Highest rated."

Image

I think he's my choice for 2nd. Madden's is breathtaking:

but it's too old school to be the Enterprise F imo.

This is my choice for 3rd:

Me, I like old school. One of the things that distinguishes Star Trek is the design aesthetic: the ships are sleek and shiny, and it's a pretty nice universe to live in. Sure, a lot of people have rebelled against that with big blocky shps and 'used future' settings... but that's mostly because it's a strong enough, appealing enough idea that it can support a dissent.

I like "Old School" too, but by definition it belongs in the past, not the future...

...or rather the future's past, our future, not the future's future.

I also like the second one, but it looks too much like a modified version of the Abramsprize, as opposed to a true evolution. Anyway, while tbh there are a few minor adjustments that could've been made to yours, Fuzzy, it does look pretty damn slick. :)

'Old school', 'sleek and shiny' we watching different shows?

Now you can say that maybe E is sleek, but shiny? Not even one, and outside of E, I don't think any of them come remotely close to 'sleek'.

The top 25 rated submissions are judged and then narrowed to four so there is still waiting to be done.

Even then out of all of them I'd maybe choose the third (#665) and fourteen (#93) which I think is disqualified for having more than one submission. A lot of them look like they are from a time the Federation was running out of money.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Nice line up Hav. Though you seemed to have used the original concept art for the Enterprise C rather than the one seen in Yesterday's Enterprise;

Good luck, Fuzzy. You'd think you'd at least place with a performance like that but looking at the 'judging' section of the rules it only says that the votes 'may be used the select the top 25' Sounds like the voting is more opiate for the masses than the contest runners actually caring what we think.

The nice thing about there being so very many worthlessly shitty entries in the top 25 (how? I'd love to know...) is that the few competent pieces should be quite easy to arranged into a shortlist.

I was using "sleek and shiny" in contrast to, say, the deliberately boxy and brutalist look of the Star Wars Imperial Navy. Or (perhaps less deliberately brutalist, but still boxy) human ships in Battlestar Galactica or Babylon 5. Or pretty much any other modern SF setting that uses the visual media.

By those standards of comparisons, yes I would say that Trek ships tend to be unusually sleek and (often) unusually shiny: curved surfaces instead of planes, structural features often swept at an angle, weapons and sensors recessed into the hull surface.
