Dig the engines man, good job on them.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

Crappy, jerky animation mockup, but I've never pretended to be good at it :)

The animation doesn't look that bad. I think you did quite well.

Excellent work, as always.

One thing about the design, I've never much liked the landing gear configuration of this ship. Two legs doesn't seem stable enough (though apparently it is, in-universe; I guess it involves repulsor fields or something) and to my eye it should have some nose gear or something at the front of the hull, behind the cockpit ramp. Perhaps the ramp can act as a backup stabilizing "leg," but it isn't extended until after the ship lands.

It is indeed an odd and vaguely unsteady-looking landing arrangement, but so classic I didn't want to meddle with it. Visually it works extremely well with the ramp down, which I suppose is one reason why it gets away with it, so to speak.

I've never been particularly good with the still image thing, but wanted to do a generic arrival at the fleet thing, sort of inspired by the Rebellion game intro. The result follows:

BATS. Bats everywhere!

I think you might have gone a bit overboard with the Interceptors.

I'm not sure if "overboard" is the word I'd choose. But they do seem a bit too spread-out and disorganized. I'd hate to be the traffic controller responsible for this event.

To fractalsponge: I've PMed you earlier regarding possibly non-profit use of your images (it's for a private Star Wars RPG wiki only accessible to my RPG group). In some ways it seems ridiculous to ask if using it in that sense it permitted, but it seemed the polite thing to do. Would you be okay with me using your images in this way?

you can use the bachground from the older pictures un a new render with lesser ties and more sd?

would be very nice

Looking good, love the feel of those engines in the back there.

Ooh, ooh! (raises hand)

I just saw your list of projects, and I'm casting my vote for you to please please PLEAAASE do Black Prince! Maybe starting in a mid-phase of Hull No. 721 configuration, with the Confed spinal heavies, odd hull colors, lopsided wings, battle scars, and pre-Aldrem drilling of the bridge tower. If when you do that, I'll think back to EVERY SINGLE Star Blazers episode where Space Battleship Yamato gets creamed, but victorious, and limps away smoking and trailing pieces of itself into some sun's corona only to repair themselves and get beat to shit all over again. I think that that would capture the spirit of ECR's prose even better than a refit pretty-pretty Black Prince.

I don't really have a good picture in my head of how to make the pre-refit Black Prince - but the post-refit one I'll definitely get around to... eventually.

Some mild turret detailing:

I am really loving that ship of yours Fractal. The more you refine the more, i don't know, 'charming' ? it is. I guess because it is smaller it is easier to 'relate' to and envison working and making rounds.

on the secutor ship was there any particular reason, be it tactical or otherwise, for sticking the bridge towers almost dead center on the body? or did you just do it because you can? btw what was the inspiration for the
mini destroyer. almost looks like a personal ship.

The Secutor arrangement was dictated by the reference from Dark Empire that I was loosely following (Anonymous destroyer 3 at SWTC). Plus that and it looks cool.

"Done" is a strong word, but this is pretty close:

What's the reasoning for the structure covering the forward part underneath?? ... the two long parallel structures look almost like landing skids (although presumably not).

Just curious whether they "serve a purpose" or are just greebles.

Check a few pages back, that large box structure houses several TIE fighters in a fold open Hanger.

I am curious as to what those 3 or 4 circular holes are, two at the prow and one or two along the spinal mount behind the forward medium turbolasers, Torpedo launchers perhaps?

yeeargh my bad, *slaps head* and I only read that the other day.

Personally from a design point of view such a hangar bay just doesn't feel right ... but fractalsponge does such a great job that each model ... just looks ... right.

Would like to add my request (along with several others I believe) of the view "out the window" (the bridge POV) in a handy wallpaper size.

None of these models are really built for that bridge shot; I'd have to massively up-detail a small patch for it to look at all convincing. Maybe someday. I'm still toying with the idea of doing some low-poly interiors for the dozen or something windows on this, and maybe some hangar inner workings.

I was looking at my Black Prince note syesterday, and made some changes to the mockup to be closer to the description:

1) Small protruding Venator reactor module in place of the secondary bay.
2) Wider thrust deflectors
3) lowered hex module and cut away at top of neck spine to allow for same
4) cut-away top terraces, added structures forward of the hex module to take the third scanner globe
5) elongated forward lower terraces to meet up with axial heavy battery

Yes. That works. The superstructure is right, the thrust deflectors are right, it's good.

The only thing that still gets me is the flat space on the bow. In the standard Imperator, there are pursuit tractor beam mounts there- part of the refit plan is to move them, and use that prime point for offensive weapon mounts based off the power grid and structural bracing there to support the original tractors. I'd always mentally pictured a sharp prow (more dramatic, anyway, surely?) with one relatively flat under-nose turret as far forward as there was structural room to fit a barbette, probably still a good fifty metres of pointy bit first, and the second beneath/behind superfiring past it.

Anyway, that's just a minor quibble, she's taking shape well.
The only purpose in my still being here is the stories and the people who come to read them. About all else, I no longer care.

So... this is a depiction of Black Prince as Mirannon dreams of her? After the Corellia refit in Story Arc the Second is done?
