Rush Limbaugh just blew my irony meter

Post by Gullible Jones »

Warning, WorldNutDaily link: http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=252589
"Liberals should have their speech controlled and not be allowed to buy guns. I mean if we want to get serious about this, if we want to face this head on, we're gonna have to openly admit liberals should not be allowed to buy guns, nor should they be allowed to use computer keyboards or typewriters, word processors or e-mails, and they should have their speech controlled."
So the least radical people in the United States can be trodden on and oppressed, while racist douchebags like him can go on spouting whatever the hell they want. Brilliant, brilliant! Say, isn't this the guy who's always whining about how liberals want to censor him?

(Or is that Glenn Beck? I forget.)

But yeah. With a moron like this having 15 million+ fans and the highest rated radio show in the entire country, I'm beginning to wonder if I should take up residence somewhere else. I'm rather keen on surviving the next 20 years or so.

Could someone provide me with an example of a equivalent left-wing national figure who continually spouts such crazy rhetoric? Or are we going to continue with this farce that both sides engage equally in such nuttiness?

The farce has been exposed for years to anyone who cares to listen. There ARE a few left wing crazies out there, but none of them have the power and respect Rush has. That is always where the '"The Liberals are just as bad!" argument falls apart time and time again. Palin, Beck, Rush, even Billo are people who have huge amounts of followers and wield power in the form of listeners. When they say something people listen and believe it without question.

The few crazies on the left, such as there are, hold no power and wield very few followers at all. But anyone on this site by and large already knows this.

In referance to the OP, well again it drives home the fact (yes FACT) that the right wing simply do not 'really' care about rights or the constitution, but simply pay lip service to it. To even JOKE about something along the lines of "All Blank should have freedom of speech removed' shows exactly what level of resect they have for real rights, which are none at all.

It has been said countless times that the Right only care about rights when it is THERE rights. If a Republican is being repressed somewhere, they shall move heaven and Earth to overcome such a horrible injustice! When someone on the Left has their freedoms stepped on? They don't lift a finger.

What was the line "I disagree with your words, but shall fight to the death for your right to say them" ? The right love to follow slippery slope fallacies, except when they apply to themselves. Ban all Liberals from free speech? Sure, and you would be next...

There aren't any left-wing Limbaughs. Simple as that. And I'm really beginning to see the parallels with the Wiemar Republic. It looks to me as though all the public needs is the right figurehead, and things could get really ugly.

And seeing as I and my friends and my family are all in the middle of it...

Yeah. I hope I'm imagining things.

The Weimar Republic had a far more powerful left, with plenty of left voices and parties than the USA ever had. Heck, they had openly socialist parties having full power over the state and an openly communist party which was powerful as well.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

In a sense that reminds me of the how a commentator back in the 1930's said that "...Nazism would come to America not with the Swastika, but with the Stars and Stripes", seeing how weak the left opposition in the US is.

Is this the quote you are thinking of?

Georgi Dimitrov wrote:It is a peculiarity of the development of American fascism that at the present stage it comes forward principally in the guise of an opposition to fascism, which it accuses of being an "un-American" trend imported from abroad. In contradistinction to German fascism, which acts under anti-constitutional slogans, American fascism tries to portray itself as the custodian of the Constitution and "American democracy."
