Good news coverage in certain areas by particular newspapers

Post by Guardsman Bass »

I thought of this topic when I was browsing the new edition of the Wall Street Journal. One of the things I've noticed about the WSJ is that it has a pretty large and good collection of articles about the digital economy, the effects of new information technology on old sectors, and so forth for the casual reader. I've got an article open in a tab right now that's talking about how the efforts by the major physical retailer chains (such as Wal-Mart) to break into the market for renting and selling music and videos on-line have done little to weaken the market dominance of companies like Netflix.

It's not the quality of coverage that you might get from a more specific tech-news website, but it's great if you just have a casual interest in this stuff.

So, what are other particularly good areas of coverage by particular newspapers?

My local papers have extensive coverage of local high school sports which, under the assumption that no one here would be interested in such highly local news, I won't link to. It's positive, lots of talk about the kids accomplishing things through hard work, and so forth, in contrast to articles about crime, tragedy, and unemployment. High school sports are a big thing in Indiana, at least as big as college sports so it's partly tied into the local cultural values.
