MOO3- simultaneous global RELEASE

Post by Vympel »

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SIMULTANEOUS GLOBAL RELEASE PLANNED FOR ACCLAIMED MASTER OF ORION III PC GAME
Higher Than Expected Pre-Orders Shows Fans' Enthusiasm Around the World For February 25 Release Date

BEVERLY, MA, February 24, 2003 – Infogrames, Inc. a leading global publisher of interactive entertainment software, announced today that the highly-anticipated and long-awaited sequel in the space epic Master of Orion® 3 has been experiencing pre-orders significantly above expectations, and the game will ship out to retail stores globally, to more than 20 major countries around the world, simultaneously tomorrow, February 25, 2003.

"The pre-sells for Master of Orion 3 have exceeded our highest expectations," says Rich Snyder, Buyer, PC entertainment-Electronics Boutique. "This product is tailor-made for our target consumer and our store managers are eagerly awaiting the release on February 25. We expect our stores to be full of MOO fans next week and beyond."

In Master of Orion 3, the sequel to one of the best-loved strategy games of all time, players assume the biggest role ever. No longer do players merely represent petty interplanetary dictators. Players become the controlling power behind an entire galactic civilization; the dictators, presidents, councils, and overlords that come and go are merely pawns in the player's arsenal. One must use these governments, their citizens, and their leaders to secure the destiny of their civilization, to manipulate policies of freedom and oppression in both foreign and domestic arenas. It is not enough to be an able economist or a great starship captain to succeed in Master of Orion 3; considerable political, administrative, research, and espionage skills must be applied to claim the title of Master of Orion.

Featuring a robust Single Player game and up to 8-player simultaneous turn-based Multiplayer, Master of Orion 3 is the definitive 5X Space Strategy game; Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate and now Experience grand strategy as you never have before.

Master of Orion 3 is being developed by veteran developer of classic strategy games Quicksilver Software, Inc and features a wide range of multi-player and solitaire play options, 16 highly-distinctive alien races, crisp graphics and an intuitive user interface. Master of Orion 3 is available for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP PCs.

Most of the previews I've read concerning MOO3 haven't been very encouraging. I'll wait for a few months and see what the people's reaction to the game is before wasting my money on it.

Tell me you don't want Imperium Galactica 3. Damn that game rocks. This is probably emphasised by the fact that the fucking MoO3 demo killed my computer.

The IG3 demo, when my friend and I loaded it for the first time our jaws probably penetrated the mantle. My god that game is pretty, amazingly stunningly pretty. It plays nicely too. its like Homeworld but with a less direct control system. I want. Now.

[if a mod thinks it neccessary, split this bit into A&P]

It's already been reviewed by IGN. 9. something out of 10.

Frankly I wouldn't put too much faith in IGN or any internet reviews. I skipped through their review (I'll have to read it when I have more time) and he seems to ignore some of the problems others have mentioned. However, we'll see it soon who is correct about the game. One thing is sure: it's not like the other two games.

Here are some reviews:

IGN (hype, hype and hype - but lots of fantastic stuff! as well!):
http://pc.ign.com/articles/386/386281p1.html

Avault (I don't like how the reviewer concentrates on graphics and other not so important aspects, but he brings up some bad things):
http://www.avault.com/reviews/review_temp.asp?game=moo3

Quarter to Three (this guy's attitude somehow annoys me):

I've heard of avault, but what's quarter to three?

My review policies are simple. Any game that gets two 9s, or two 8s and one one 9 in the sites/ mags I read, gets bought, if it's my genre.

In terms of M003- no brainer. I would buy it if it got anything over 8.5.

Isn't that just Hegemonia, or something? I thought Hegemonia was supposed to be the sequal to Imperium Galactica 2 (which was an okay game as far as they go).
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Not sure, Hegemonia could well have been a "spin-off" product. IG3 is still in production though, due out midyear.

About time. Its been so long I'm only buying it after I hear from people who have it and try it out on a friends computer.

That might be difficult, the only major flaw I've heard, and the PA crew confirmed this , it that it takes 10 or so hours of experimenting and trial and error to get a handle on the wealth of info and options that this game provides. Its literally gigantic in scope and complexity, dwarfing anytinf that has come before, its not an RTS or even Hearts of Iron(Which I now love , so all you HOI fans feel free to say 'I told you so!" after my Anti-HOI rant of a few weeks ago) so don't judge it by only a hour or so worth of play.

I've heard it is a POS by the beta testers. More importantly the company that made the thing is know for POS strategy guides. And it was written before the Beta Testing was midway through.

I've heard its handy, mainly for sorting out the wealth of menu's and screens (there are over 12) and figuring out what they all do. However its tactical advice is EXTREMELY dated as Prima wrote it prior to some serious changes made by QS during the delay period. If your new to the whole 4x experience , I'd pick it up , it will save you a probable headache. Veteran wargamers and strategic gamers should have fewer problems, eiether way your going to need to experiment for a bit to see what everything does and how it effects game play.

One piece of advice I've gotten, when you start the game jot down your race stats, bonuses and flaws before you begin, there isn't anywhere to see then again later!
