Uh oh. Is 'Canadia' an insulting term? I thought it was a term of endearment. And I thought I made it up. Shit.Frank Hipper wrote:And conversely, Darth Wong, not all Americans think of Canada as America Jr., Canadia, and other such insulting terms.
Oh well, least you got LOTR filmed there.Captain tycho wrote:And for you Canadians to know, New Zealand doesnt hate you either.
We just hate the damned Australians for stealing our tourism.
Hey, don't underestimate the geek market. The fact that startrek is still alive after years of mismanagement shows just how much geeks are willing to misinvest in their fanboyism.Darth Wong wrote:That means they get big tourism money from LOTR geeks.
Yes, my family back in Chirstchurch saw it on a road trip and sent me a picture.neoolong wrote:Did you know that outside Matamata there is a sign that says "Welcome to Hobbiton?"Darth Wong wrote:That means they get big tourism money from LOTR geeks.
Guess where I went over winter.
I believe intent is the focus here. I doubt that, taken in the context of your posts, anyone would misconstrue your intent.Zaia wrote:Uh oh. Is 'Canadia' an insulting term? Ok, that's good. Ando was born a Canadia, so of course it is a term of endearment coming from me, as I love Ando (usually)!Frank Hipper wrote:I believe intent is the focus here. I doubt that, taken in the context of your posts, anyone would misconstrue your intent.
It's ok, I came up with it quite a few years ago. I might still be able to take credit for it.I heard "Canadia" for the first time on a morning talk radio program a couple years ago. Sorry, Ms. Z.
I got A&P because it was my idea to create the fourm and I asked for the place when IG-88E was removed.fgalkin wrote:How did Enlightenment get to be a mod in the first place?
Yes, yes we do....just so we can celebrate and sorta mourn.Darth Wong wrote:You know you want us to.Stravo wrote:Hey as long as Canadians don't bomb the Baldwins we're OK.

Enlightenment, kid, mull this over: "Someone who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is NOT a nice person".Enlightenment wrote:I find it rather ironic that you lot are throwing so much crap in my general direction given that I've spent a fair bit of time and effort not only policing the fourms but also getting in the face of the other mods, standing up for you lot in the face of questionable mod behavior.
mostly? That sounds like you hate something else. And concidering those of us here who are from America are in the minority, we'd appreciate it if you'd quit telling us what we already know and can't do anything about. This is a majority rules country.Ted wrote:I dont hate Americans per se.
I hate the US government, mostly.
I'd say the majority here are from America.Kelly Antilles wrote:mostly? That sounds like you hate something else. Perhaps, but we do not represent the majority of Americans.Ted wrote:I'd say the majority here are from America.Kelly Antilles wrote:mostly? That sounds like you hate something else. Actually, you have it the wrong way around here....Darth Wong wrote:Just in case Enlightenment and Ted have given you the wrong idea...
I do not claim to be a nice person. Nor, for that matter, do I claim to be entirely sane.MKSheppard wrote:But Enlightenment, on the other hand....he makes it out like EVERYONE in the States is a fucking moron before his goddamn "superior intellect"...
Naturally, since we're sci-fi people: a specific cultural subset.Kelly Antilles wrote:Perhaps, but we do not represent the majority of Americans.Ted wrote:I'd say the majority here are from America.
Not without a lot of work, but the peak hours for traffic on the board correspond to evening in the Americas, so I'd say that the majority of the board's population lives in the timezones that correspond to the Americas. But, my guess is that about 40% of the board is from the US.
(edit: Mike, is there any way you can determine exactly what percentage is from the US?)
