Spaceball One meets the Galactica (RAR)

Post by Srelex »

In the time of the first few episodes of the neo-BSG series, the fleet suddenly stumbles into Spaceball One, off to suck away some planet's air, with all of the high-ranking Spaceballs aboard.

What happens? Let's have some fun. :P

... The spaceball one is fucked?
Seriously, does it even have any weapons :p
Although it is enormous.... So maybe it could just hoover up the Galactica :p

Spaceball One does apparently have weapons batteries of some kind...even if their gunners leave something to be desired.

The only problem they seemed to have was hitting a target they'd been told to miss, though that's no indication the opposite wouldn't occur.
I suppose there's some issues that come with having your guns manned by cross-eyed assholes!
Spaceball One does have an insane size advantage, they could just have a shot at ramming the Galactica. Turning cirle might be a problem...

Spaceball One's radar could be jammed. But I'm not sure if we ever saw jam on Galactica.
It's Jodan, not Jordan. If you can't quote it right, I will mock you.

Cool. I've actually been working out my post for a force sub replacing Eagle-5 with the Enterprise-D at Druidia.

The spaceballs are goofy, but their technology is very advanced. They're almost a schitzophrenic race, where their behaviour can only be described as childish, though not necessarily incompetent on the whole. After all, they are still capable of building and operating vessels of great power, and of projecting that power across an entire galaxy that is afraid of them.

Spaceball-1 is actually a humbling example of the extent of Spaceball technology, since it was obviously a purpose-built craft designed only for one mission: to extract the atmosphere from the unarmed Druids. Since they probably chose Druidia due to being isolated and unarmed (they had no space fleet or defenses, merely the shield, and nobody came to their aid despite the fact that the attack must have been anticipated), the only obstacle was the shield and the extraction and storage of an entire planet's atmosphere.

The real annoyance is the difficulty in evaluating how powerful Spaceball-1 is against other spacecraft. We only see it firing warning shots at a small shuttle. Being intended for use against a race with no offensive capabilities (or at least none that they felt could repel Spaceball-1), the Spaceballs might have only built Spaceball-1 with the minimal necessary armament to defend itself. The only concrete example of Spaceball firepower comes from their soldier’s hand-held weapons. Hits from the Spaceball’s rifle weapon cause a shower of sparks, wide scorch marks, and in some cases throws the target head over heels several feet into the air – imparting a lethal amount of energy to an armoured soldier even when hitting them in the lower abdomen.

As for its other capabilities, we know it travels at superluminal speeds, but there is no easy way I can think of to really determine how far or fast it goes since we only see that Druidia is visible as a blue dot from "the moon of Vega", but we don’t know how far Spaceball-1 travelled when they overshot Lone Starr during their pursuit, nor how far Vespa had travelled from Druidia in her shuttle before being captured. All we know is that Vespa had made it at least as far as the orbit of another planet – Jupiter II – by the time her father contracted Lone Starr.

However, the galaxy at large is comfortable with stunning technology - recall that at one point, Lone Starr casually mentions that he was born in a different galaxy and raised by penniless monks, and Vespa doesn’t act shocked, suggesting that intergalactic travel for unemployed adventurers is not uncommon in their universe. Wherever it comes from, the Spaceballs themselves manufacture and use technology that is at least recognizable by Star Trek standards, such as transporters, energy shields and weapons, deep-space ships capable of superluminal travel, tractor beams, and deep-space sensors (the 'teledar' picked up Spaceball-1 and Vespa from Spaceball City). The power and effectiveness of all of these technologies are, for the most part, difficult or impossible to easily evaluate.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.
