I couldn't find the last thread about it, so I figured it would be easier to make a new one.

I'm not crazy excited about it, but I'll give it a look opening day if the reviews are decent enough. The trailer gives a better hint of the tone of the movie, a standard actioner with a few jokes thrown in. Given that the film wasn't shot in 3D, I might pass on 3D since I'm not the biggest fan of conversions.

That would be this. I don't really love the design myself, but it's pretty faithful to the comic book design by the look of things.

I liked the fish out of water stuff on Earth much more than the Asgard Costumed stuff. Which seemed to very be repetitive shots of Thor throwing the hammer.

Also no 'I say to thee... NAY!"? For Shame.

I actually quite like it. Well, I suppose it could do without the spikes, but I am fascinated by the idea that it's an empty suit of armor (driven by someone's soul like in the comics?) with a furnace inside it. The flames/energy shining through the panels of the armor looks kind of cool.

On the whole, I'm looking more and more forward to the movie. From what I've, the Asgard stuff's limited to the beginning and end.

The Destroyer looks much taller than Thor. I don't remember it being that much bigger than Thor, although the actor playing Thor most likely isn't 6 foot 6 like he is in the comic books, so its possible the Destroyer is the right size.

It looked to me like they purposely made the Destroyer larger to make it more imposing in appearance.

Whatever the reason it is/i] definitely bigger. The actor playing Thor, 6'6'' or not doesn't appear to be noticeably short yet the Destroyer is easily twice or more his height.
And this might simply be a side effect of the scene selection for the trailers, but is it me or is Thor rarely seen wearing his helmet when in uniform?
Overall, I rather liked it, especially as I think we get to see a lot more Thor than in the first one.

The Destroyer has been shown to be all sorts of sizes, depending on who is drawing him. Different sources list from 6'2" - 6'6", but even they site it has been different. I think one time when it contained all the life forces of the Asgardians it was like 3000' feet tall.

Anyway, it looks great. I am more and more stoked to see this. I like some of the humor I am seeing. (breaking his coffee cup made me actually laugh) and Natalie Portman has already out acted herself in comparison to all of the Star Wars prequels in about 15 seconds of trailer time.

Now the question... do I actually see this in 3-D? Ugh.

I have not really seen much of thor outside of crossovers. I'm guessing most people are not that familiar with thor.

Most likely. He's definitely less known than Hulk/Iron Man/Captain America. On the other hand, the mythology angle might actually make him more "recognizable" than those three.

I have the impression that up until 8-10 years ago there were only a few well-known (i.e. outside the comic book-buying public) Marvel Characters. People knew of Spider-Man, Captain America, a little Hulk, maybe the Fantastic Four, and that was it. It's hard for me to know for certain, since I joined the comic book-buying public in about 1985. In the unlikely event that there's anyone reading this thread who hasn't followed Marvel, can anyone confirm or destroy this impression I have?

It looks like they might be deemphasizing SHIELD compared with the first teaser - though we'll have to see how much that carries over to the film.

I'm looking forward to it - probably won't see it in 3D though. As cool as throwing the hammer looks, as well, I hope that they vary the fight scenes a bit more than that.

People knew of Spider-Man, Captain America, a little Hulk, maybe the Fantastic Four, and that was it. It's hard for me to know for certain, since I joined the comic book-buying public in about 1985. In the unlikely event that there's anyone reading this thread who hasn't followed Marvel, can anyone confirm or destroy this impression I have?

The X-Men got a lot of exposure in the '90s from the combination of their animated series and the video games Capcom was pumping out around that time, and Iron Man was also reasonably well-known (in the sense that people knew that there was a character named Iron Man that wore red and yellow armour, even if they didn't know anything about him beyond that) but yeah, outside of Spider-Man, Cap and Hulk Marvel's characters weren't too well-known before the movies started.

Then again, who outside of comic fans is really aware of DC's characters beyond Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman?

I forgot about the X-Men.

As for DC, again my impression is that knowledge gets pretty shallow past the big three. Green Lantern, The Flash, maybe Aquaman (thanks to the old Justice League or SuperFriends cartoon series from the '70s) might creep into that company.

I'd say public knowledge gets shallow past me and Clark period. There's a reason we were the ones who got the big budget live action movies. If anything I'd guess more people know about Flash or Green Lantern than do about Diana, at least around here. Barry's TV series was a bit more recent if nothing else.

Any hints of stuff other than super strength and toughness? Any wind/lightning control with his hammer? Other than that looks ok, bad guys look like they can do damage to him. The defending the innocent made me chuckle a bit thinking that's why they didn't go that way with Venom.
