What drives these people?
Microsoft
Ashcroft
TCPA
Palladium
What drives these people and organizations, and others like them, to do what they do? Are they really doing all this to make us feel safer against terrorism or piracy? (note that many of the measures Homeland security and such put in to combat terrorism are basically facades to please the public)
What is up with these people? Do they all have micropenises and feel some need to overcompensate for that? Are they control freaks? Sycophants who want to please the public so much they do anything to gain public support as being, "partiotic and against terrorism", without considering the consequences? And what about these computer idiots, like the ones who made TCPA, and also Gates? What drives them? What fuels them? Bad childhoods or something? Some weird control-deficiency syndrome?
And you'll notice this is a lot like a rant but it's also a call for opinions. What do you guys think?

They have the One True Way. They know it's the One True Way, and will try to force you to follow it.
The mere fact that they're wrong never seems to occur to them....

Re: What drives these people?
Microsoft and Palladium, since they're corporations, are probably driven by greed and lottery mentality - just like every other corporation. However, I don't know what motivates Ashcroft.... since I'm not much fluent into US politics. All I know is that he's Attorney General of the USA, and that's he's an ultra-conservative. (But not as conservative as David Duke or Pat Buchanan)Shinova wrote:Microsoft

What I don't fucking understand is how can these people get into power and not people like us? By that, I mean law-abiding citizens who pay their taxes and whine at the latest unfair measure politics brings us sometimes.
Why???
Why???

Natural selection? ... I'm not joking. I know people like this, who do anything to make a business/money. These people would be on their death-bed and still trying to keep their business running. Its like they're trying for immortality by creating this business empire. If you want to get into these positions you have to be willing to push aside people like this.
what is palladium and TCAP?
microsoft: money, power
ashcrof: i have no clue. maybe he was the little, fat nerd in school whom everybody picked on and now wants revenge.
maybe he likes pissing people of
maybe he really believes in what he does and thinks that his homeland security is actually a good thing which supports society and helps the people.

TCPA is the name for the hardware technology behind Palladium. Palladium is basically Microsoft's brandname for TCPA.Shinova wrote:TCPA is something from a thread Einhander started. Supposedly, it limits which software you can save or use on a comp, basically the companies restricting our use of our comps.
The basic objective of TCPA is to change computers from general purpose devices that can run any software into glorified XBOXes only capable of running software and accessing data that has been certified by Big Brother.

It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.

TCPA is possibly the best Anti-Linux Anti-Open source idea going.....
Since by defenition open source code cannot be certified (as it can be recompiled altered customized etc) it cannot ever be Palladium/TCPA complient.....isnt that an intresting coincidence....

That poster makes sense. After all, didn't the Nazis fight against the Communists in WWII?
For Microsoft, I'm guessing that they're motivitated by greed, and lots of it.
For Ashcroft, I'm sure he's either paranoid and thinks that we need to live in a police state to be safe from terrorists, or hates groups of people and wants them behind bars.
