You said that you had done it more than once.

I bought it twice in that week before I was informed what I was buying, the first time following women from my neighborhood and the second time a day later because fucking up cooking it the first time pissed me off and I was determined to do it right the second time. It never ended up tasting quite right when I was cooking it but I was cooking it assuming that I should just treat it like any other slab of red meat.
You said that you saw other women buying it, but by your own admission you say it looked like other cuts on the aisle, so you really can't say for sure who was buying what.

I can't guarantee it, no.

For some reason I can't paste the article, so I will hand type the relevant passages.
Japan had a stockpile of 4,455 metric tons of frozen whale meat in December from previous expeditions, according to the latest official data.

Maruha Group Inc., Kyokuo Co. and Nippon suisan Kaisha Ltd., three of Japan's largest fish companies, withdrew from the whaling industry in 2006, citing commercial reasons, leaving it in the hands of Japan's government.
We see that its subsidised. Tick. Non profitable. Tick. Lots of meat in storage not purchased by consumers. Tick.

So why do they still continue to hunt? To give the finger to us Gaijin right?

It amuses me that an environmental organisation whose best ship is named after the freaking Crocodile Hunter has managed to piss right wing nationalists off, (you know the ones, the ones who awesome morality venerates war criminals but considers environmental activists terrorists and demand the death penalty for trespassing on a whaling ship). Yep, they did more to piss these guys off than what China and South Korea managed to do in the early 2000s with their diplomatic protests.
