TPM vs. TWoK

Post by Darth Garden Gnome »

Pretty simple, which movie do you like best? I'm basicly pitting the best of Trek with the worst of Wars, to see whoreallylikes their series the best. Place your bets!

Wrath of Kahn is better than TPM of course.
If it was AOTC, totally different choice.
TPM just sucks; on the other hand, it does have one redeeming feature:the end lightsaber duel.

You can't compair the good shit with totally shit shit.

Twok was arguibly the best of the trek films done, maybe TUC is close in this but Twok is the only one we see a sustained fight in...and actually good acting...Kir...I mean william shatner and the others outdid themselves really.

funnily enough....the reliant had a super weapon onboard too...and it was a race against time to destroy it before they could use it.....hmm. this sounds awful familiar to a certain st film just released of late.

TPM's ONLY good point was the lightsaber duel.

I think the duel was better than the entire Nemesis movie. :mrgreen:

I personally think Plan 9 from Outer Space is better than TPM. That movie was a total piece of steaming shit (except the lightsaber duel. I own the DVD for the lightsaber duel only) The best entertainment I get is watching TPM apologists try to say that this movie was in any way good.

TWOK one of the best movies out there, not just Trek. Where else can you see two great hammy actors going at each other and tearing up scenery like rotweilers on speed??

TWOK or TPM...sorry had to regain my breath from laughing too hard.

One is some overglorified lightsaber battle....and stuff vs one of the best things to come from Trek.

I own TPM more out of the completeist nature in me more than any real love for the film...I have bought the newest DVD of TWOK because I like it that damn much.

Yeah...they finally came out with a director's cut of the thing, instead of direct port of the VHS version.

Two actually. One is the standard movie with a few extras. The other is a directors cut version with added scenes and CGI for the space battles.

As to the topic, TWOK owns TPM its not even funny. TWOK is the best Star Trek movie of all time. It is a fan classic and all others are measured off of TWOK. TUC is a close second, but when it comes to sheer brilliance and putting the movie together, TWOK absolutely rocks.

I enjoyed the Original Triology, but TWOK is higher.

TWOK
ESB=TUC
ANH=FC
ROTJ=VH
AOTC
Nemesis
ST:3
Generations=TPM (Both flawed, but still enjoyable)

Most people still like the OT above AOTC. I suspect the results would still be overwhelming in favor of TWOK. Its kinda hard to beat out a movie as well done as that.

I agree, but I should point out that this may be a male thing. TWOK is a man's movie, while TPM has more appeal to women and children than to men.

My wife says she likes ST6 far more than ST2. And she would vote for TPM over TWOK.

Why does TPM appeal to women more? I understand the children part, but why women?

Oh, and I liked TWOK better than TPM.

Playing Devil's advocate here, I'd like to list a few pros for TPM:

The Republic Cruiser- Coolest new SW ship. Obvious family resemblance with the Corellian Corvette. Unfortunately, un-armed.

Cutting through the blast doors-look what a lightsaber can really do! Only thing is, where's the stench of burning flesh?

Those and the fact that being shot on film-as opposed to being digital-lent it a more contiguous SW flavor.

Not many saving graces. :(

The two downsides to TPM completely destroy the movie, though....Jake Lloyd and Jar Jar Binks. ANY director who unleashes these two hideous beasts upon his script deserves to be recognized as a shitty director. I haven't seen Wrath of Khan in years, and I vote for it just to spite TPM, I hate TPM so much. What a piece of garbage.

I'm one of the lamers who voted for TPM.

How could I do such a terrifying thing?
TWOK was uninteresting to me, probably because I care little about anything of ST, no matter how good compared to the others.

But I have an even more horriible thing to say!

Jar Jar was cool! Gungans were cool! like some kind of frog faced donkey people!!

Probably the relative lack of violence and macho posturing. And you can't forget the impact of the cute little kid. All women have a mothering instinct, and while teenaged males in search of alpha status find his behaviour infuriatingly uncool, he seems like a sweet little boy and a lot of women like that. Also, most women don't get into violence that much and don't give a lot of points for it. Every guy I know preferred AOTC over TPM. Every woman preferred TPM over AOTC.

Comparing TWOK to TPM is like comparing the fire power of an ISD with Voyager. There's no comparison. (I voted for TWOK)
