Eaglecam

Post by Ritterin Sophia »

For the last eight years numerous conservation groups have funded the live camera feed for a Bald Eagle's nest, that I've watched for the past eight years that's set up in Shepherdstown, WV. Now for those of you who don't know, Bald Eagles mate for life and they use the same nest every year. I thought it interesting enough to share with the rest of you.

Now the eggs aren't set to hatch until sometime in March, but it's interesting to watch and keep a window open to check back in every once in a while just to check in. So, here ya go:

That's pretty damn sweet. I may have to keep an eye on this one....

Is it bad I felt odd about listening to loud music while watching it....

The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia has a similar cam for red-tailed hawks (which also mate for life). The cam recently restarted and has been active for several years.

I've been watching this at work, and I've gotten several of the ladies interested.

I felt sorry for the eagles today, however... high winds that shook the whole tree, as well as small hailstones, and the poor mama-bird sitting on the nest with her wings half-furled to protect as much as possible while the nest was literally moving her wing-span or better with every breeze.

Mama and Daddy have been grabbing hay or something and padding the nest. A tweet on the website thinks the eaglets will hatch about the 14th

Still watching Liberty & Belle brood the eggs. It's oddly fascinating to watch the eagles simply sit on the nest. I've been watching at work non-stop.

Here's another one in Iowa that all my relatives have been buzzing about. The eagle babies are pretty adorable, and the camera has night vision so you can see them at any time.

Well unfortunately, only one of Liberty & Belle's eggs hatched, which is unfortunate. Sadly in this case it would've been better if neither egg hatched, another eagle had been flying around and disrupting their ability to provide for the baby and it starved.

It gets even worse, Schatten.

"Trudy" as the forum titled the Intruding Eagle, has chased Liberty totally away from the nest and has been sharing the nest with Belle. There has been confirmed mating activity between Belle and Trudy, but it's doubtful that any eggs will be produced. It's simply too late in the year.

Sounds like Liberty is getting on in years and simply wasn't able to compete with the younger male.

Poor Liberty.

At least the Decorah eagles seem to be doing well.
