Why couldn't we have just gotten a nice series about the Romulan War, instead?

Because that would actually take effort and a respect for TOS.

These producers really DON'T get it, do they? Their franchise has had all sorts of problems finding definition since they took over, and they think that by doing more of the same thing it's going to make it work out in the end. It's terrible. If they were to come out and say, "We fucked up. Here's what we're doing to fix it," I would have MUCH more respect for them. Their unwillingness to admit fault, and sometimes their unwillingness to admit that there WAS anything to be ashamed of, puts them more in line with my conception of Bill Clinton than anyone else. I saw a wonderful political cartoon of him when he was having his Monica problems, which caricatured him with an ax, and the stump of a cherry tree behind him, telling someone "I cannot tell a lie. Mistakes have been made." It was perfect, and seems to have captured not only the essence of that shameful conduct on the part of an American president, but also of B&B.

BTW, I love how Berman comments, "It'll be tough, but there's always time-travel." What a self-contradiction. They've been finding easy ways to use time-travel since TOS. That anyone could present that as a difficult solution to a problem indicates spectacular stupidity on the part of anyone involved in such a franchise. As a writer, I will personally vouch that time-travel is generally seen by other authors as an interesting concept as the BASIS of a story, but when thrown in as an ADDITION to a previously existing story (like ST), it is seen as a cop-out for a reason.

Moreover, this is just another interview continuing in the B&B tradition of becoming increasingly like the people they meet on the internet. This time-travel method of linking ENT with TNG (and, presumably, other series) is almost IDENTICAL to the ways that many FANFIC authors mix SW & ST with wormholes, just to see them fight and have some fun writing the story. Here, B&B are doing EXACTLY the same thing. "Let's mix ENT and TNG." Unfortunately, their motives are wrong and their presentation is worse. Whereas a good fanfic author would sit down and come up with an interesting story that is exciting and detailed, B&B just say, "Let's mix ENT and TNG for the hell of it." Then they present the resulting mess of a story-arc in a weakly developed and crafted feature film, and expect to rake in money. Compare this to fanfic authors, who craft solid stories to have fun and to bring enjoyment to other people. These guys are TERRIBLE. If someone in Paramount hadn't hired these two, they'd be living in their parent's basements to this day.

Roddenberry's rolling around in his grave now.
He isn't rolling. He's doing an Olympic gymnastics routine in that thing now.

ST needs a removal of the cancer that is B&B. Perhaps then ST can finally recover.

I agree with Tycho and Neoolong. As soon as Paramount gets their collective heads out of their asses and realize that the scores of internet fans are THE fan base, they'll relent and remove the B&B cancer. That's when Trek will heal. Let's face it, it practically can't get any worse.

Actually, Roddenberry was cremated after his death and his ashes were launched into space.

Then he's doin' a frickin' spacewalk trying to find any intelligent life out there so he can convince them that nuking Paramount is a good thing. :x

Actually, IIRC those ashes have since decayed in their orbit and have long since been scattered all across the atmosphere.

No, they'd have been hired by another studio. Berman was in TV years before TNG. What we have here is the effect of dumbass Hollywood TV producers let loose on Star Trek.

As far as I can tell, B&B are just reciting a bunch of standardized, rehearsed marketing blurbs. In the article, it almost seems like they're politicians. :?

Why doesn't Paramount just fire the fuckers?

Any of you guys see Friday the 13th Part VI: JASON LIVES?
If so, remember the scene where Jason was ressurected and came out of the grave and ripped the dudes heart right out of his chest and held it up for the guy to see right before he died?

Wouldnt that be SOOO AWSOME if Roddenberry did that to Berman? :D

Think of it this way, guys:

The sooner Trek dies, the sooner B&B lose their jobs. After that, it'll be about five-ten years before the painful memories are washed away, and it can be brought back, set a century after Voyager, full of amusement, vibrance, and good television ('course, then it'll descend into suckitude again, and the cycle will begin again).

Thanks to B&B Star Trek has no future. They've killed it, forever most likely.

You know what? They should just re-do Voyager, with as little control by B&B as possible, with good writers and a continous plot for each the seasons.

Of all things why Star Trek? What has Gene ever done to B&B?

Gene maybe pie in their coffee or something.
