(PEOPLE.com) -- Gotham City is about to get a French accent.
Already set to star Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Christian Bale returning as the Caped Crusader, the latest Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises," is also welcoming a formidable femme fatale: 2008 Oscar winner Marion Cotillard.
While it still remains to be seen whether the French star, 35, will play a romantic interest or a rival superhero to Hathaway's character of Selina Kyle -- also known as Catwoman -- the addition of Cotillard comes as a surprise, reports Monday's Le Parisien newspaper.
Sources also tell PEOPLE that the La Vie en Rose Oscar winner, who is expecting a baby in April with her French actor-director beau Guillaume Canet, signed onto the "Batman" project Saturday in Paris.
The "Batman" movie will also reunite Cotillard with her "Inception" director Christopher Nolan and costars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy. Others in the cast include Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman.
According to sources, Cotillard will start shooting at London's Elstree Studios in mid-June, then move on to locations in Pittsburgh and Los Angeles this summer. Filming is expected to wrap in New York in November, with the picture's release set for July 2012.
They haven't said, of course, what she'll be playing. But another female for Batman 3? My only concern with Talia would be that the movie would be too plot-heavy to squeeze into a single film.

I do trust Nolan to keep the film moving in the right direction...mostly.
Well gee, at this point you might as well add DiCaprio and Page to the cast. These guys must have made one hell of an impression on Nolan while filming Inception. What role is Gordon-Levitt even suppose to play?
Gordon-Levitt confirmed to play Alberto Falcone. So I guess we'll have a continuation of the mob themes. He'll be the son of the character Tom Wilkinson played in Batman Begins.
Nice. I wonder if we'll see Alberto's transformation into the Holiday killer. It'd be a nice dovetailing of the downfall of the mob and the rise of the freaks.
I'm hoping he won't go full-out Holiday. There are enough villains in the film as it is: Catwoman, Bane, and Talia. At least I think Cotillard will be Talia. That said, Gordon-Levitt actually looks like Alberto.
"I'm just reading through your formspring here, and your responses to many questions seem to indicate that you are ready and willing to sacrifice realism/believability for the sake of (sometimes) marginal increases in gameplay quality. Why is this?"
"Because until I see gamers sincerely demanding that if they get winged in the gut with a bullet that they spend the next three hours bleeding out on the ground before permanently dying, they probably are too." - J.E. Sawyer
Why do people seem so certain that Talia will be in this film, when to the best of my knowledge their has been no official statement or even credible leaked rumor to that effect (please correct me if I'm wrong)?

Robin?
Heh.
I think it's the fans wanting to see the Ra's subplot tied up. The League of Shadows has to be still out there and active. And they planted the seeds for Talia in the first film when Ra's was discussing his family.
Wait--they said shooting is in London, Pittsburgh, LA, and New York. Are they not shooting this one in Chicago at all? Or is that just Cotillard's scenes?

The mob is probably unhappy about its portrayal in the last one and refused permission for filming without changes to the script and/or more money.
There are hardly any excesses of the most crazed psychopath that cannot easily be duplicated by a normal kindly family man who just comes in to work every day and has a job to do.

Replace "ginger" with "n*gger," and suddenly it become a lot less funny, doesn't it?

Oh come on. I really hope this is a joking remark.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I guess they didn't appreciate a little magic trick...
