Let's Play: EU3 Divine Wind

Post by Dominus Atheos »

First step is choose which nation to play as. I personally suggest either England, Castille, Ottomans, or Byzantines (starting at 1405). Any other suggestions are welcome.

I'd also like to recommend turning lucky nations off so everyone is on equal footing, inflation off or at most only from gold, and possibly turning AI aggressiveness on low. All of thses are especially necessary if we play the Byzantines.

Thoughts or suggestions?

England! Play England dammit, and screw the damn French. That and I understand what the world looks like in western Europe better than the East...
AI aggressiveness low, I'm pretty sure this is the one where they all jump on you all the time isn't it...

Ming China. I want to see you struggle against the faction system. Or else mod factions into whatever nation you decide to play.

Ottomans Empire.

Byzantines are all lovely and all until you realise that everyone thinks the same. They are somewhat over used in Paradox LP's/AAR's and it has gotten rather boring to see someone do them.

I will say though that I am not sure what audience for a Paradox game you expect to get here but good luck anyway.

I suggest Castile, but then, I'm biased, so sue me. :P

I suggest Burgundy (the more awesome France), or the Hansa. BYZ is a lot harder in DW; you essentially roll the dice and hope the Timurids really go for the Ottomans if you start in 1399. Of course, if you start in 1405 or so, the Ottomans are in a civil war, so it's much easier, given you start with a navy bigger than theirs.

Or, if you're a masochist, Songhai. :P

I'm forced to half-seriously suggest Brandenburg, but I'd really like to see England in action. Stretch the trade mechanic to the breaking point.

I don't think I want to play the Byzantines or Ottomans any more. the latest beta patch broke Hordes pretty badly:

Image

Hordes now automatically conquer any province they occupy for one year, and the only way to take provinces from them is to use colonists, 5 colonists per province! So Hordes can expand a lot faster then they can be beaten back.

Okay, so no proximity to hordes. Looks like this'll be a Creek game, then.

Don't be. They're a vassal of the Timurids.

PS, I didn't mention but this is at 1445.

Is Venice an option? Conquer the Mediterranean, or just buy everyone out. Rout the Turks and be hailed as the savior of Christendom. Or something.

Pick a harder nation. I've found the AI pretty much needs luck to compete on an even footing with a human player.
Brandenburg? Thuringia? Bohemia? Poland? Lithuania?

How about Brandenberg?

Let's you start out small enough to make the game interesting whilst having lots of room to expand.

Can we choose Belgium? Scotland? Ireland? Some other small power?

Scotland might work. I certainly don't want some one province nobody, but a small 3-4 province minor might be fun.

They are not as defeating the ottomans is easy as Byzantine.

Hmm? RedImperator seemed to have a lot of problems when he tried. I admit I've never tried to play the Byzantines on normal options starting in 1399 before though. I usually play Ottomans or Castille.
