There's something to be said for being too complex I want my Russian missiles to come as one piece damnit! Say, you think these things are friendly to customizers? You know sombody is gonna turn one of them in a Reliant to battle the E-A.

Hmm, supposedly the E-A is but the first of a series (the E-E will be next), so I imagine the Reliant could be released eventually.VF5SS wrote:There's something to be said for being too complex I want my Russian missiles to come as one piece damnit! Personally, I'd want to see all of the Enterprises released before they get on to other kits, but a Reliant kit would be cool as well.

General discussion on (non-Trek) miniature modeling split into OT.

considering that the X-Wing is closer to 1:30 scale that would be as assskicking indeed, not to mention entertaining as hell. the exhaust trail alone from the X-wing would blow....lol nevermindneoolong wrote:Nifty. I want to create my own battle fleet and rule the universe. Muhahahaha. Course I would probably lose to my X-Wing models.

I think that would be more applicable if the thread were "Star Trek: The Anime Series".The Yosemite Bear wrote:Why was I worried that this would mean that after their encounter with the borg the Akira prise would become a transformable spacecraft with a really big gun that worked once every episode.

Because you're generalising Japanese companies and entertainment. The Yosemite Bear wrote:Why was I worried that this would mean that after their encounter with the borg the Akira prise would become a transformable spacecraft with a really big gun that worked once every episode.

Dude, that would be so cool. And a hell of a lot better than Enterprise. The Yosemite Bear wrote:Why was I worried that this would mean that after their encounter with the borg the Akira prise would become a transformable spacecraft with a really big gun that worked once every episode.

There is no such thing as Robotech.
There is only Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada...

First of all, it'll be next to impossible to properly bash the Bandai E-A kit into a Reliant. If I understand Hobbylink Japan's press releases correctly, the model only requires assembly...no decals, no painting. Even the aztec pattern is already on the thing. The only possible extra is lighting it, which the kit is optimized for.
(As an avid, kick-ass modeler myself, I hope this pre-painted junk isn't true.)
Second, have you guys never seen other Trek kits? There are about two dozen different AMT/Ertl Trek model kits floating around out there. Many of them are quite good (Galor, E-D, maybe the KBoP). A select few are outstanding (Vor'cha kit, E-C, Runabout).
AMT/Ertl tackled a Reliant in 1995. It's not their best kit, but it's BIG, and I've seen plenty of people build it into a masterpiece with a lot of elbow grease. Check out beyondantares.co.uk, and look at Jon's Miranda in his picture gallery.
Check out all of his models, in fact. He's pretty much a Darth among Dark Modelers!
Bandai's stuff will be the best, probably followed closely by Polar Light's two new Trek kits (classic E and the NX-01, both mastered by perhaps one of the greatest modelers to never work for Star Trek or Star Wars, Thomas Sasser). But you want a REAL model?
Ok, see if you can find a Klingon Bird of Prey put out by Tsukuda Models, circa 1993. It makes the otherwise very nice AMT kit look like a boring toy. If it wasn't made of vinyl, it would be the finest model I've ever seen, bar none. (And yo, if you find one, LET ME KNOW! I have one, yes. But I want MORE! I'm a KBoP freak.)
Check E-Bay for old AMT/Ertl Trek models. It's loaded with them. Most of them aren't perfectly accurate, but to all but THE most discerning eye, from 3' away they look just like their onscreen counterparts. Only truly anal dipsticks like me quibble over their accuracy...
Revell/Monogram did a few ships from VGR, also. I hear the Kazon torpedo was their big seller, mwahahahahahaha....

I get the feeling this model will be great for total n00bs that just want a pretty model to look at (myself, namely) without having to invest hours and hours and hours into trying to paint it (I am absolutely godawful at "arts and crafts" stuff, I am so uncoordinated) and glue it together. What's more, as seen in the photo below, all major parts of the kit will light up, and all parts necessary to do the lighting will be included in the kit! In addition, the complex "Aztec mottling" color scheme on the surface of the ship will be pre-printed on the plastic, so you won't need to struggle with masking tape for hours to complete a great-looking Enterprise!
seanrobertson, while I respect your "kick-ass" modelling ski11z, I for one will jump at the opportunity to have a n00b friendly, decent (compared to the literal toys I have right now) model that will take minimal effort.
