Spoiler
It's also a reference to Idiot Sci-fi shows that use that. Terrier is a reference to an episode of Space: Above&Beyond.
Thunder!

You shout that out, and only too late do you realize that that was the response from an episode of Attack Run. The StormTrooper lifts up his Hellgun, draws a bead, and blows you to pieces. He lights a cigar, scoops up the kitty, and walks off.

YOU ARE DEAD.

THE END.

"Guardsman..."

You begin. "I am a Commissar of the Imperial Guard. You vigilence does you credit, but we don't have time for this."

The Stormtrooper casually lights a cigar and points his Hellgun at you. "Sorry mate. Safety first."

"Guardsman, I was instructed to take over the commissarial duties of the Feellippeeni regiment this morning, I was not informed of a code of the day." The kitty meows.

"Ain't that a cryin' shame. Stay still, I don't want to hit the cat." The storm trooper puts his eye along the rifle and pauses, as if he is listening to something. "You got a name?"

"I am Commissar Alyrium..."

You are interrupted as the stormtrooper lowers his hellgun to his waist, and brings up his hand to a comm bead. "Jenkins, we found a Commissar Alyrium, is that the guy Colonel LeJune told us to keep an eye out for?" There is a pause, then he eyes you. "What was the name of your Swordsman instructor at the Schola?"

"Master Shimazu."

"Alright Commissar," the Stormtrooper salutes. "I am Staff Sergeant Nelson. The rest of my fireteam is down this way." He turns and heads back in the direction you were originally heading in. Nelson is wearing a uniform made from cameleoline which is doing a fantastic job of helping him blend in. 5 other stromtroopers are at the junction of a connecting trench leading closer to the wall. Nelson turns back to you.

"There's a connector trench back to the Feellippeeni lines about 2 kilometers that way. The way is mostly clear, nothing I'm sure a man of your reputation can't handle."

"You aren't going to escort me there?"

"No Commissar, we are not. Our mission is more important. You can come with us, if you like. We're going to blow up one of the Germanoid field commanders."

If you would like to head to safety, go to page 79
If you would like to follow the stormtrooper squad, go to page 99

I agree with Connor. Follow the stormtroopers, but first have one of the stormtroopers disembowel the kitty, then skin it for use as a neckwarmer.

3:1 we go forward.

”Sergeant…

You say. “Thank you for pointing my in the direction of the local command. However, if it’s all the same to you I’ll be joining you on your mission. You’re going to kill a senior field commander, you say?”

“We’re going to blow him up.” Says SSG Nelson. “You sure you’re up to this Commissar?” Nelson is looking at you with a skeptical eye. Obviously he hasn’t bought into the reputation you built being on the Lord General’s Staff. Two more freight train-explosions fly out and hit the East Wall. You give him your best icy Commissar look.

“Quite, Staff Sergeant. Now, who is your commanding officer? Who is leading this?”

“That would be me Commissar.” Nelson says, “Alright, follow my lead and stick close to Big Steve. With respect, you aren’t trained for this sort of thing.” There is a faint note of irritation in his voice that you decided to tag along. “Steve! Keep an eye on the Commissar.”

“Alright Staff Sarge.” Comes a rumbling voice from behind you. You turn and fortunately catch yourself before you jump with a start.

Image

It’s a Bon’head Ogryn, who is carrying a Ripper Gun in one hand with a multi-melta bungee-corded to his back. He is even wearing a cameleoline uniform. That such a brute can move quietly should astound you, but then you’d taken part in the campaign against the Feeboota Spookums, who was a notorious user of Kommandos. Big Steve looks down at you.

“Com’sar you stick close to me. Else you might give us ‘way. Nice kitty.” The kitty purrs. You turn back to SSG Nelson.

“Staff Sargeant, who is it we’re to remove?”

“Metal man.” Big Steve rumbles.

“Big Steve is right.” Says Nelson. “There’s a traitor Marine by the name of Fritz von Fritz. He is in charged of the trenches in front of the curtain walls, and is very thorough in his inspections of the Germanoid forces.” Nelson squatted down and brought up a mission file on his slate. “In case you haven’t noticed, the Feellippeeni assault has failed, not that it would ever have been successful. The Feellipeeni regiment is several graphs short of firepower to make it to the wall, and most have already left the trenches to head back to their side of the line. No reason for them to, the Germanoids are pulling assets out to stop the 29th from rolling over the Eastern sector. It should be a relatively quiet walk to our target.” Nelson paused as a static discharge caused everyone’s hair to stand on end. The Washington was firing at the main citadel again. The Shepistani stormtrooper shook his head. “No enough gun to break the void shield. Word from the 29th’s staff is that the Marine insertion team only had a partial success; of the three plasma reactors they only got 1. Never send a drugged up genetically engineered maniac to do a Shepistani’s job.”

There were sober nods from the rest of the stormtrooper squad. There was a roar as several hundred armored vehicles abruptly started their engines. The roar grew louder as the Germanoid AFVs facing them started their engines as well. The battle for the Eastern Wall was about to begin. Nelson turned the slate to you.

“Plan is to sneak our way up to the command Quonset, and either guide in an airstrike from the 7,201st Composite Wing, or Big Steve will blow him up.”

“I have Carla for that.” Big Steve rumbles, twisting a bit to show the Multi-melta.

“Alright, let’s go.”

You follow the stormtrooper squad(from the rear, on more than one occasion Big Steve grabs you and pushes you to the deck because you aren’t quick enough to respond to Nelson’s hand signals.) for several kilometers of nearly empty trenches. There is a cacophony of battle immediately to your East, and such a shudder of exploding shells that at times you have trouble walking straight. Two corporals lead the fireteam by about 30 meters, expertly killing sentries and guiding through a circuitous route avoiding most of the bomb-proofs(fortunately, the majority of Germanoid forces left in this sector are hiding in their bunkers as the Imperial Navy spread some love on its hit parade). As dusk approaches there seems to be no sign of the battle letting up; the Shepistanis do not intend to fail in taking the Eastern Sector and the Germanoids know that they will be executed as heretics when the battle ends. The corporals come back to the squad.

“Staff Sergeant,” Says Corporal Jenkins, “We found the command Quonset with Fritz von Fritz’s personal heraldry. It’ll be a might dangerous for us to target in the trenches, but we have the coordinates.”

“Hmm…”, SSG Nelson says. He turns to the vox-operator. “Connect me with the AOC.” The Vox operate makes a few clicks and then hands the transceiver to Nelson. Nelson gives his identity code and explains the situation.

“That’s a negative Wolfman-1.” Says the Imperial Naval Officer in the AOC. “We need the target painted. And we mean right on the target, the Admiral will only release enough special munitions for one shot at this.”

“Roger, wait one.” Nelson clicks off the transmit button and looks at you. “We need someone to crawl along topside to paint the Quonset steadily for an extended period. We’ll keep them pinned in the hut.”

“Pardon me Staff Sergeant,” says Corporal Jenkins “But Fritz von Fritz’s Honor Guard are hiding behind their sandbags. The shelling is too much for them. For that matter we don’t know that he IS in the Quonset. I say we storm the hut and let Big Steve do the job if he’s there.”

“I kill for you.” Big Steve nods.

If you would like to storm the Quounset Hut, turn to page 431

3:2, Hut is stormed.

“Sergeant…”

You say. “Obviously, you are in command here, but I recommend that we confirm that this Fritz von Fritz is there. You men are true soldiers of the Emperor, the scourge of the Dark Powers. While a Traitor Marine is nothing to sneer at, your faith in the Emperor will allow you to smite him handily.” And also Big Steve, you don’t say out loud.

SSG Nelson nods at this. He turns down towards the trench were the Quonset is located. As he turns you notice his eyes flicker strangely. Augments! And a fine set. No wonder he isn’t wearing the sensorium helmets and masks. As you look closer(as much as you can in the darkening light) you can see a hairline-thin mark just below his beret. Did he have some sort of internal protection like the Skitarii? SSG Nelson turns back to you.

“Alright Commissar, we’ll do it your way. Gents, check your ammo. Corporals Jenkins, Leroy, head on back and prepare to take out the sentries at the exterior entrance. Standard Type-7 breach. Commissar, it might be best if you take the rear, you aren’t trained for this.”

“Of course Staff Sergeant.” You say affably. The rest of the fireteam, including Big Steve, move forward. You follow at the rear and you hear Jenkins and Leroy lighting off their Hellguns. You cannot see anything because Big Steve is in front of you. The fireteam lines up on both sides of the entrance to the Quonset, Segeant Schultz steps forward and places melta-charges on the door frame, and blasts the door open. The fireteam rushes in, and the small hut is filled with burning flesh and ionized atmosphere. Big Steve roars and charges into the middle. You see Fritz von Fritz.

Image

Fritz apparently has a multilaser built into him, and he is firing like a man possessed. You duck behind a overturned table and fire off shots from your bolt pistol at some of the Germanoids, who are rapidly being depopulated. Big Steve rams himself into the Obliterator and slams the butt of his ripper gun into his head. To your astonishment Fritz von Fritz staggers back, and you notice that something is pressing upon the inside of his kull like it’s trying to get out. With a foul smell and splashing sound his head turns into a gibbering giant venus flytrap with one big eye. Big Steve unfastens his multimelta and blasts the spawn into nothingness. After a few more shots the Quonset is cleared. You walk over to Nelson, who is lighting a cigar.

“Thus the rewards of heresy.” You say, turning to the mess that had once been one of the Emperor’s finest. Nelson nods distractedly. “Our loses?”

“Lance Corporal Jester.” He indicates a ruined body. “Everyone else made it through okay. Steve! Stand away from that.” He walks off to speak to his Vox-operator, while you head over to the corner of hut where the Germanoid combat cogitators were. The Kitty is still perched on your shoulders. You look down at some of the Germanoid code books.

I’ll turn you yet… a husky voice says. You turn and say “What?”

“I said you acted like a Grenadier vet.” Says Nelson. “We can’t make a connection with the Vox, but that was Fritz von Fritz. Come here and check this out.” He leads you to the rear of the hut. “What do you think?”

“It’s a corrugated tin wall Staff Sergeant.”

“Yeah, Big Steve can’t see it either. Neither of you have the optics. Cross your eyes.”

You do so, and a large ceramite door, big enough for that Obliterator to pass through appears.

We better go in and investigate! It may be a secret entrance to the Castle! Turn to page 74
This is sorcery and we should ask for the Inquistorial Representative for the Crusade to make their way here and investigate it. Might take a while. Turn to page 506

You stand at the back of the Quonset…

…And yes, there is a gap between the outside wall of the Quonset and the North Wall of Castle Hohenzollern. After SSG Nelson showed you the door you directed the Vox-operator to move 50 meters back in order to get clear of the interference of the void-shield. It is now nearly night. SSG Nelson looks at the with you and shrugs, gently poking his Hellgun where there should be a tunnel or wall or something connecting to the mysterious door on the inside of the Quonset. Nothing but air. Jenkins and Leroy are still in the Quonset guarding the door. You sigh and turn to Nelson.

“Sorcery.” You shake your head. “But if this is a secret way into Castle Hohenzollern, we cannot ignore it. It is only a matter of time before the Germanoids realize that Fritz von Fritz has been dealt with and send someone to investigate. Or close off the tunnel. Inform the Vox-caster that he is to relay to Colonel LeJune that we are going to investigate the door.”

“Already did Commissar.” Nelson grunts. “This might be our best chance to disable a second plasma reactor. Do that, and Prussiaburg falls. War is over. Peace at least.” Nelson snorts as if he is barely containing laughter. “Until the next one, anyway.”

You are mildly peeved that Nelson made a command decision without consulting you, but you understand that Stormtroopers are given extra leeway because of their profound proficiency in the martial arts. Instead you give your best Commissar pose and say:

Image

“Good initiative Staff Sergeant”. As if SSG Nelson gives two turds about what you think. The two of you head back to the front as the Vox-caster and Big Steve come walking back.

“Message from the Colonel Staff Sergeant,” Corporal Kendall the Vox-caster says “’The Inquisitorial Mission for the Crusade is en route, but I agree with your assessment that time is of the essence. Do not wait for them. The Emperor and Saint Curtis Protects.’.” All the Shepistanis make the sign of the Cloud at that. The group enters the Quonset, where Jenkins and Leroy have erected a barricade facing the mysterious door. SSG Nelson speaks.

“Gentlemen, we are heading in. It is unknown as to when, or if, we will receive reinforcements or extraction. If the entry leads us into the castle, our primary mission will be to make our way to the reactor rooms, and disable at least one more plasma reactor. If this occurs the void shield will be unable to cover the central citadel and Prussiaburg will fall. It is very likely that none of us will return. Just remember; We are Shepistanis, and if there is one thing we do, it’s win. We cannot abide losing. I pity the poor Germanoids, I really do! The bravest men in the Segmentum are coming to kill them.” The Quonset shook as distant Fission missiles impacted the East Wall. “Now is our time. The Emperor and Saint Curtis Protects. Do you have anything to say, Commissar?”

“No Sergeant, I don’t You mean all know what is at stake, I can only hope I don’t get in your way. Now, gentlemen, the door?” Corporal Jenkins, a burly man with the build of a Catachan leaned forward while Leroy covered him. He gave the door a good yank. It didn’t move.

“Hold on Sarge, let me get my Melta charges.”

Big Steve sighed, moved forward pointed his ripper gun at the hinges and fired a shell at each one, then kicked the door down. The door fell backwards into an inky darkness. Jenkins leaned forward and looked back at Nelson.

“Optics work fine sir. The sorcery has no effect on our blessed equipment.”

“Commissar, I recommend you stay close to Big Steve.” The recommendation didn’t leave much room for interpretation. You nod and as you follow the main body in Big Steve rests one of his hands on your shoulder. You realize that he is guiding you, as you cannot see a damn. Kendall abrupt turns and hands you what you realize is the view finder from the “painter”, and as you hold it up to your eye everything becomes clear as day.

The fire team moves stealthily through the tunnel for a kilometer. Every now and again there is shaking as Shepistani fission rockets impact the castle. You look back towards the Quonset, but there is no light; it’s impossible to tell whether or not the Inquisitorial Task Force followed you in. The team comes to an abrupt stop and you have to stop yourself from running into Kendall.

“What is it Staff Sergeant?”

“An intersection.”

903, Down. The enemy's Plasma Reactors are deep in the nether bowels of their fortifications, so 'tis only natural we go that way.
"The 4th Earl of Hereford led the fight on the bridge, but he and his men were caught in the arrow fire. Then one of de Harclay's pikemen, concealed beneath the bridge, thrust upwards between the planks and skewered the Earl of Hereford through the anus, twisting the head of the iron pike into his intestines. His dying screams turned the advance into a panic."'
