Best theme
Which series has the best main theme music?
TOS is pretty good, especially with the female going "Ahhhhhh" throughout the theme. Enterprise's theme though, is actually pretty good and they have the best opening of all the trek series.

TNG - Eh, I don't like the theme too much, it was mostly just horns, like bassons. That or large stringed intrument.
DS9 - For the life of me, I cannot remember the theme music! I remember the opening sequence, but the music escapes me.
VOY - See above, I can barely recall the music. I like the sequence of images though, the part where Voyager passes through that gas cloud and you can see the deflector in action.

I actually find ENT's theme song to be a good song, just not a ST song.
The best ones for me are TNG and DS9.

Lets see:
Ds9
Voy
Ent
This does not mean I like that pile of $%$# Ent, just the theme.

My preference in order
DS9
Voyager
Next Gen
Enterprise
The themes for DS9 and Voyager actually seem to catch the ideals of the show best. They also seem the most timeless. Next Gen just seems too '80s to me. And Enterprise suffers from my extreme distaste for the last 10 years or so of the franchise, and from its lack of 'replay value.'

The first part of TOS opening. Movie music is usually much better.

I like the opening montage of ENT, but I don't think the music is very approppriate. I'll stick with the classic--TOS.

Seriously though I prefer Voyager's and DS9's themes. TNG's theme get to be obnoxious and repetative, TOS has the woman wailing. and Enterprise is different, but so is the whole freaking series.

Aya, the main instruments in the TNG theme were brass and strings, usually higher notes. the bass line was mostly percussion and woodwind, brass, or string depending.
Personally i rather like the DS9 opening but the TOS opening second half is good.

The theme for Enterprise is sung by Russell Watson. Rod Stewart sang the original version. Russell Watson is a much better singer then Rod Stewart.Aya wrote:I finally found out who sings Enterprise's main theme, it's Rod "Haha, I'm married to a fine piece of ass" Stewart. I seriously thought it was the lead singer of some defunct 80's hairband.

That is not the "slow" version. That is the standard movie version. Its been used in ST:5, 8, 9, and 10. The TNG version is spead up and simplified somewhat. The original version was from TMP and is the slowest of the versions, also in some ways very classical in nature. You want the slowest yet, listen to the one that fits with the circling of the Enterprise for beauty shots. The Silence and I wrote:I actually liked the slow version of the TNG theme song used in Insurrection. It may have been the best part of the movie, but there you go.
As to the "TNG" theme that Goldsmith updated in Star Trek 5, that is my favorite theme. Very well done and each is just slightly different. The begining theme in FF had a neat mix of something else in the begining. The end theme to FF combined the main theme and the march of the Klingons. Nemesis was also good because it combined the militaristic theme in with the main theme.
However did Generations did a fair job. Much of the music fit the mood perfectly. The music as the Saucer was crashing was perfect. Same with the E-B escaping the Nexsus.
Horner did an excelent job in TWOK and had some nice moments in SFP.
As for the TV series. DS9 is my absolute favorite. Not as fast paced as the TNG theme, much more classical in nature, also portrays a grand theme even. TNG is next. TOS is a classic, but not my favorite. I never could stand Voyager, and the ENT one just doesn't fit.

It's on the Encounter at Farpoint soundtrack, IIRC the last track. McCarthy wrote his own theme for TNG... that first slow bit is the same, but the fast part is where it differs, going into some brass stuff and then a big feature of the "Picard theme".Sektor31 wrote:Huh?
