Doctor Who S6 trailer (spoilers ahoy)

Post by Dartzap »

Well, as always, the trailer looks great. Greys, Guns and, uh, Yorkshirisms... I'm looking forward to Neil Gaimans episode in particular this year.

I've posted in the Children in Need thread and I'm getting really stoked again. It has more teeth and action to it than Season 5, which in some of the weaker episodes/segments felt like The Sarah Jane Adventures on steroids.

Neil Gaiman, eh? I wonder if Iain Banks and Alastair Reynolds will get hired as guest writers?

So it's said. I don't think it's been officially announced.

Please Mr Moffat, have Nixon responsible for creating UNIT (what with the dating controversy it's easily doable) at the end of the story. Go on, I endured Churchill with a grimace, now let's have some ludicrous lionising of Tricky Dick, who I rather like.

Have they said anything about the Doctor getting new companions? Rory was OK, but i really do not care for Amy Pond. Hopefully they will explain the back story of River unlike last season.

Ayup, even on the rumour mill, nada about the Daleks. Sontarans, Cybermen and Ood are in, though.

Both Amy and Rory are in the trailer, so I'm guessing not. More from River Song as well - "This is where the Doctor finds out who I really am". A bit of a shame; I quite like the mystery aspect of the relationship. I guess it had to be revealed at some point.

I will be utterly amazed if there are no Daleks - they've just revamped the bastards so they surely must feature somewhere.

Who could that guy be that has killed hundreds of Time Lords? I can't think of anyone in canon who has done that, but if I had to guess it would either be

1. Omega
2. The Celestial Toymaker
3. The Great Vampire (kind of difficult since he is dead, but hey this is Doctor Who :D )

I am hoping its the big bad from the previous season who manipulated the TARDIS into setting up the crack in time, and my money is on Omega.

The Toymaker would be interesting. Especially if the whole of last season was one of his games. Although I;m not sure how the "silence will fall" would fit with him.

Hopefully, they will explain her back story and then we will never have to see her again. I hate her shtick.

Still not that enthusiastic about the next series. We still haven't hate our rampaging egyptian goddesses on the orient express in space yet. FOR SHAME, Mr Moffat, FOR SHAME.

You could also count the Black Guardian. It might also be a new rogue timelord, they have a tendency to kill conformist timelords.

I just watched this again in more detail, and if you look at 0:37, you see what looks like a firefight/explosion involving the Doctor. BUT...it's in a Ninth/Tenth doctor era TARDIS Console Room. With the characteristic round console and organic looking bony type pillar things.

Make of that what you will.

It looked more like the trans-mat beam thing from season one then a firefight.

I think the Black Guardian would fit best thematically, chaos→destruction→void→silence. As long as they don't bring in all the extra EU guardians, I would be quite happy to see a return of the dualism.

This trailer has made the most excited I've ever been about DW returning...even more so than when I was a wee lad of 11, waiting for the new Doctor Who in 2005. So many questions...who's the evil Barry White talking who's killed hundreds of timelords? Tennant era TARDIS?! NO DALEKS?!?!?!?!

God I can't wait...
Yeah, I've always taken the subtext of the Birther movement to be, "The rules don't count here! This is different! HE'S BLACK! BLACK, I SAY! ARE YOU ALL BLIND!?

I thought it was common knowledge that the voice, the cause of the TARDIS blowing up, was a new villain to the show called the 'Silence'. Moffat confirmed it in interviews, and indentified the Silence as being a group (he mentioned them as 'they' rather than 'he' 'she' or 'it').

Also, if the american setting is based on the Roswell event, wouldn't that put Truman as president, not Nixon?

I would think it would be Truman yes. If, of course, it is actually the 1947 thing.

I dunno why, but the voice talking to the Doctor sounded like Micheal Gambon to me. Probably wrong though.

Although the:
"Fear me, I've killed hundredsd of Time Lords."
"fear me, I've killed them all"

Is indeed awesome.

That's what I like about Smith's doctor. He's managed to get over at least some of the trauma of the time war that made the 10th doctor so goddamn ineffectual at times. This doctor prefers not to use force if he can help it, but he isn't afraid to act to stop the bad guys.

The trailer looks nice. I hope to get scared, that's one of the main reasons I watch Doctor Who, its one of the few shows that can creep me out.

Yeah, but the trailer that we've seen has the president looking and sounding a lot more like Nixon than Truman.

And yes I too am hoping that this is the impetus for the establishment of UNIT, as that would be a great way to tie back into the old series' continuity.
