Just wondered, does anyone think Lucas added those Federation lines on purpose, to cause a stir?

Do you really think its a coincidence that the Trade Fed ship has a detachable inner sphere/command module?Sothis wrote:Just wondered, does anyone think Lucas added those Federation lines on purpose, to cause a stir?

I'm one of those TPM apologists Stravo refers too. I think it was a good film because of how it fleshed in the universe and set the stage. In addition, since I was only 7 months old when ROTJ camne out, this is the Star Wars experience to me.
But I still think WOK owns it. That is easily one of the best Sci Fi films I have ever seen.

If you had put in ESB.....well, the voting would have been so one sided you couldn't believe it...
Acutally, I could.
ESB is the best damn sci-fi movie ever. Period. Finito And don't EVER disagree.
TWOK is pretty good, and is easily the best of the ST movies, but it's no match for ESB.

A couple of points from the Doctor...
TWOK....easily better than TPM...personally I prefer it to even the ESB...but thats just because it had more of an impact on me at a certain age...
ESB, the best SW film BAR NONE...Im sorry but I think the PT movies suck so far...
CGI in TWOK, I don't have the DVD yet...Im glad they didn't mess with the SFX, Im really against the current trend to add stuff with computers...I didn't mind it with the Motion Picture DVD, because that film was admittedly rushed when it came out & the added SFX didn't change or mess with anything, it just made it less rough...

I voted for "The Phantom Menace." I know that I'm in the distinct minority, but there were several aspects of the movie that I enjoyed, such as the three-way lightsaber duel (I still get a chill from the sheer power and grace of Ray Park's work) and the subtle machinations and political maneuverings of Palpatine (one of the most underappreciated aspects of both prequel movies - the man's a political genius and Ian McDiarmid is playing the role perfectly). I also thought that role Qui-Gon Jinn was a perfect depiction of what a Jedi should be: strong, intuitive, wise, compassionate, and willing to take a risk when necessary.
"The Wrath of Khan" is an outstanding picture, the true pinnacle of Trek storytelling. But ever since I was five, nothing has had the visceral grip on me like Star Wars. Even the "weakest" stories of that universe command my attention like nothing else. Call it a flaw in my character, I suppose...

III is definitely a continuation of II. IV picks up where III left off and ties up a few loose ends from III, but the main story really has nothing to do with the prior events. To me its more like a duology and an epilogue as opposed to a true trilogy.Admiral_K wrote:A bit off topic, but don't you think that ST's II - IV could be considered a trilogy of sorts? The events all are essentially chained together more so than in any of the other movies.

I prefered TPM over TWOK, but I consider ROTJ inferior to both of them. As for why I consider TPM better than ROTJ. Let see:
1. I consider C3PO way more annoying than Jar Jar Binks.
2. I consider Ewoks way more annoying than Gungans + Anakin.
3. Suspension of disbelief, the Empire screws up way worse in ROTJ than the Trade Fed in TPM.

ROTJ STILL has the greatest space battle in all of sci-fi though. TMP doesn't even come close.von Neufeld wrote:I prefered TPM over TWOK, but I consider ROTJ inferior to both of them. As for why I consider TPM better than ROTJ. Let see:

ROTJ had the ships to make a good scene but the time was never devoted to it. In TWOK there was like 45 minutes devoted to space to space combat.Darth Servo wrote:ROTJ STILL has the greatest space battle in all of sci-fi though. So, are you saying that you would like Lucas to show more cap ship fighting in the extra special edition of ROTJ?Darth Pounder wrote:ROTJ had the ships to make a good scene but the time was never devoted to it. In TWOK there was like 45 minutes devoted to space to space combat.

No i'm saying i wanna see some lengthy Space to Space battleing. On the whole the Battle of Endor took 45 minutes to show on the screen, that was devided between the Lightsaber duel on the DS, the Battle for the shield generator bunker, and the Space Battle itself. I'm saying that i want what most people here have always said they wanted an extended battle.Darth Servo wrote:So, are you saying that you would like Lucas to show more cap ship fighting in the extra special edition of ROTJ?Darth Pounder wrote:ROTJ had the ships to make a good scene but the time was never devoted to it. Pretty much sums up my opinion as well except I'd add that I didn't find Anakin annoying at all. He was just a little kid and acted like one. No big issue for me. Jar Jar was mildly irritating though.Pastor Andy wrote:I voted for "The Phantom Menace." There is a reason for this. IIRC ILM did the original VFX. They were THAT good with it that the original VFX is better then some current CGI.Vympel wrote:I finally got my copy, I never spotted this CGI.Alyeska wrote: The other is a directors cut version with added scenes and CGI for the space battles.
