Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Slightly awkward title aside, I am down right embarrassed that this slipped under my radar. I didn't think this movie was gonna come out for another year.
I'm not super excited for it, but I'm definitely impressed. Thought that "hey we got one of the kids from harry potter" second felt a bit forced.

Probably, and that's nearly always a plot i dislike. Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Excuse me for being retarded but..is this part of the planet of the apes universe? i seem to remember that in the old movies, monkeys took over by being slaves, not test animals?
Also there were those 2 apes from the future who's some had children with stupid monkeys, or something similar to that.

Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
In the first iteration, Humans destroyed themselves through a nuclear war and later the apes evolved on their own. That's mainly the first 2 movies.lordofchange13 wrote:Excuse me for being retarded but..is this part of the planet of the apes universe? i seem to remember that in the old movies, monkeys took over by being slaves, not test animals?
The second iteration is caused by apes surviving Earth total annihilation at the end of the 2nd movie and travelling back through time to the 80s I think. Humans were amazed by their intelligence at first until they discovered their fate in the final iteration and blame the apes for that. They were subsequently killed but their kid survived. Human decided that nevertheless they should make apes smarter and use them as slaves. The kid later led the rebellion against human and apes took over.
The last part of the series is how ape and human learned to coexist peacefully.
Then you got a reboot (3rd iteration? parallel universe?) were human scientists from the far future get caught in some kind of time storm and end up on a distant uninhabited Earth (to be confirmed). They had monkeys used as test animals which this time again evolved and decided that they were far smarter than the human scientists. They killed them and took over the world once again. One scientist managed to get sent farther in time which prevented him from being slaughtered too. He led the human rebellion this time and seemingly managed to bring back human and ape together (i.e no more master/slave relationship).
When he tried to travel back to his own timeline, he ended up on a world that looked exactly like our own except that we have been totally replaced by apes. Maybe another parallel universe or the humans and apes just couldn't live together.
And what about "Rise of the Planet of the Apes"? I'd say that it's either a 4th or 5th iteration after someone managed to change the timeline once again or just another of the parallel universe where apes just got as smart as us and took over.

How exactly are a bunch of escaped science lab apes a threat to humanity? Fine, they're smart. They're still naked and weaponless with no martial education or training though.

Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Not gonna lie.
This universe has no appeal for me whatsoever. The first movie was a perfectly fine sort of long Twilight Zone episode. The Burton remake was that + action + better makeup + general mediocrity. I've read plot synopses of all the other entries in the series and they have no appeal to me. nor does this one. Setting it in the modern day just draws attention to the basic silliness of the concept.

I'm a huge Planet of the Apes fan, but I am not interested in this movie. Just let this franchise die. They've had five sequels, a TV series, a bunch of comic books and hell, they even had a crossover with Alien Nation. This franchise had a good run, but the concept has been milked dry.

Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
They should have just stopped after Beneath the Planet of the Apes. Having the end of humanity come about as a result of a war between apes and humans completely undermines the power of the first film. We destroyed ourselves, the apes evolved, and now they're making the same mistakes. A sequel should never be made if it undermines the original film.

Wouldn't have gotten CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF THE APES if they did that. That's unacceptable.

No, a sequel should be made if there's a chance of more money
I'ld like a movie where humans make super intelligent apes and then, nothing bad happens. Ape and human go on to a better future and the doomsayers are shown to be the worthless luddite bitchers about doom and progress that they are.

Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Or in the case of Terminator 3, which undermined the second film. Seriously, we had an awesome "There's no fate but what you make" epic, and then they go and shoot that to shit with a "Actually there is fate and you're fucked no matter what you do, natch!" in addition to being a generally rubbish film.YT300000 wrote:A sequel should never be made if it undermines the original film.
The last modern remake apes film was okay, I quite liked it even though a lot of people didn't. But this ... just looks ... ehh. What are the chances the apes in this film end up taking over the world by the end of the movie? I mean it makes no sense but given the title ...
Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Well the original book was about that human society was collapsed because they lost the will to improve and prefered to be lazy assholes who just do nothing, while the apes took over more and more jobs, finally overthrowing their human masters.dworkin wrote:No, a sequel should be made if there's a chance of more money

Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Earth is already ruled by apes - after all, humans ARE apes
It would be amazing if that was the twist ending of that film, but that's never going to happen.

Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
We can complain all we want about how the original message of the films is totally lost the Hollywood remake. Hollywood is just doing what any business would do and is cashing in on an established franchise.

Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
It was still our fault. There was no indication that the ape uprising spread beyond the one city, let alone the entire planet. In fact we never saw anything outside of North America. The exact circumstances of the nuclear war weren't specified, but it was stated that it was man's doing, not the apes'. The most likely explanation is that the other powers of the Earth felt threatened by the situation in America, and that led to WWIII.YT300000 wrote:They should have just stopped after Beneath the Planet of the Apes.
