fgalkin's Fundie Quotes Thread (official sources only!)

Post by fgalkin »

I have decided to start a thread where I will post the sayings of various fundies around the country. I will focus mostly on quotes of fundie leadrs and ministers that have appeared in print, rather than those of your average funide, although there might be exceptions.

Some of the quotes to be posted in this thread will actually be useful when debating fundies, while some are there to show that even the most prominent fundies are no smarter than your average troll.

So, here goes.

My first quote is on education, and is from an article by Mel and Norma Gabler (the bitch who managed to get Texas textbooks recalled because they were contrary to her religious beliefs.)
A very dumb fundie leader wrote: When a student reads in a math book that there are no absolutes, every value he'd been taught is destroyed. And the next thing you know, the student turns to crime and drugs...

Crime, violence, immorality and illiteracy...the seeds of decadence are being taught universally in schools.

Mel and Norma Gabler, Texas Monthly November 1982.

So, apparently illiteracy is being taught in schools. Close all schools, and you eliminate illiteracy.

And, here is a quote of even greater stupidity.
The right to defend one's life, family, liberty, and property is a God-given right, supported by the Scripture, and illustrated in God's Law as seen in Nature. Any person, group or government which would attempt to deprive one of this right, or attempt to persecute or punish one for execising this right violates God's Law and is an enemy of God's people. Weapons are essential for self defense, and Jesus admonished His followers to purchase a sword. A firearm is the modern equivalent of a sword, thus gun control in any form or manner is in opposition to God's Law.

Remnant Resolves (1988)
Since when did Jesus tell his followers to arm themeselves?

More to come.

Have a very nice day.

No, actually, Jesus said that if you got slapped, you should sit down and quit your bitching.

Well, maybe not exactly, but he was a freaking pacifist, for Desler's sake! No fucking way, and I mean no fucking way he could even be INTERPRETED as saying "go buy a sword".

FG: Luke 22:36 states:
He said to them, "But now, the one who has a purse must take it, and likewise a bag. And the one who has no sword must sell his cloak and buy one.
I think that's the reference they're making.

BTW, I like the website www.fallwell.com . It analyzes Falwell's statements and shows how they're incorrect theologically. It focuses primarily on his misintepretation of verses about gays and lesbians, but it helps show not all Christians are mindless hatemongers.

Here's some more.
A humanist is a humanist is a humanist! That is, he believs as a humanist, thinks as a humansit, acts like a humanist, and makes descisions as a humanist. Whether hi is a politician, government official, or educator, he does not think like a pro-moral American, but like a humanist. Consequently, he is not fit to govern, or to train our young.

Tim LaHaye, The Battle for the Mind (1980)
Next time a fundie calls you a rabid atheist, or says that atheists are the ones attacking them, and not the other way around, slap them with this quote.

But, according to them, there is only one way to interpret the bible. That would be their way, of course.

What do you mean official source? I've got quite a few good ones.
Homosexuality is a sin. All sin is a choice. Therefore, homosexuality is a choice.
It was by some fundie on RR.

Here's an important one.
If Paul is wrong in this factual statement about Eve's coming from Adam [1 Cor. 11.8], there is no reason to have certainity in the authority of any New Testament factual statement, including the factual statement that Christ rosy physically from the dead.

Francis A. Schaeffer, No Final Conflict: The Bible without Error in All That It Affirms (1975)
This means that if you prove that anything, and I mean ANYTHING[/i] in the bible is wrong, it makes the whole bible void.

Use that to finish off any fundie.

Have a very nice day.

Of course, he conviently ignores that Paul was nothing more than a glorified minister...
