Da comrade. If Westwood did it, I'd see chinese lass running on screen using computer and looking Trinity like, yes ? Joe Kucan great director ! Pity we no see work dis time. :(

Kolinar Kolktrass speaking, as the Atreides representative to the planet Dune.. oh wait, wrong Audience. Anyway, this is the second time we see a Westwood affiliated game(it wasn't finished byW estwood, though they started it) in 3-D, after the game I was featured in: Emperor:Battle FOr Dune(yes, I was in THAT game).

Now, do not pay attention to that old, communist cronie, while I activated Mentat mode...

[Mentat Mode primed]

Every Westwood Game had a penchant for actual acting. Even this was phased out recently in most game studios with the advent of 3-D animation, Westwood still continued this tradition, creating the well-approved Tiberian SUn scenes, and the comedy acting in Red Alert 2.

However, acting was lacking in Generals, and was repalced by some rubbish 3-D animation, copying directly from the FMVs in Warcraft 3. Distasteful indeed, i daresay.

Aside from that, if I were to highlight Genrals's strong point, at least in my opinion it is NOT a Command&Conquer game. Rather it is a game that is a complete recollection of all past C&C experiences all bundled into one active game.

Let me disect it slowly:

Sides: Though real world(yes, the sides are very real world), the three different sides also are reminiscent of the old C&C sides. America represents a mix between G.D.I and the Allies. note that, politically, America is the watchdog of the world, so, it is fitting. China, though somewhat modern, is still reminiscent of the Soviet sides, though, this time, they're more like the Soviets in the original Red Alert. Lastly, the GLA, while representing the Al-Qaeda to an extent, before you can even say "O-sama.. it's Kane !", yup, you guessed it: the GLA is VERY much like Nod( if you check your Bible, and your geography, the land of Nod IS in the Middle East, theoretically)

Technology: A complete rehas of all past C&C games, with a few differences. To begin with, the Chinese have Gattlings and Migs. America has the A-10 Warthogs from the original, the ion cannon, along with GPS. And the Terrorists have Ordos Saboteur like idiots with bombs on them, not to mention the fcat that they resort to sneak tactics.

However, the above are NOT bad things. Essentially, this game will appeal, primarily, to fans of the original series, not for the acting, but the mere fatc that they get to see some their favourite units, and more, in glorious 3-D. Also, newcomers to the game will be trated to a trealistic setting and storyline that's relevant to the new world.

Essentially, C&C : Generals gets my vote.

As Kolinar Koltrass, I shall carefully disect this game...

[Mentat mode primed]

The thing about C&C Generals is that it is NOT a C&C game. It's an (almost) compete bundle of everything that is and was C&C.

After all, if theres' one thing that's missing, it's the old Westwood penchant for acting. That's now missing, in the place of 3_D animation FMV that screams Warcraft 3 imitation.

Aside from that, everything in Generals is a rehash of past games, only modifed, adapted, and actually matched, to meet the real world setting.

Let me elaborate: America, being the watchdog of the world as it is, is a combination of the Allies and G.D.I. China has all the old, rumbling, hell-march tactics of yesteryear soviets, but with an added technological edge in hackers. The GLA, for all their similarities to Osama and gang, acyt very much like Nod(it'll be interesting to point out that the Land of Nod, where Kan went to, actually is kin the Middle East).

America has the old ion cannon, GPS and A-10 warthogs(remember Tiberian Dawn ?), the Chinese have Migs and Gattlings(think Yuri) and the GLA are real, annoying, insidous brats(like Ordos and Nod).

And that's what it is. Just as EMperor: Battle For Dune was putting not the actual Dune world, but it's own version of it, into a 3-D world, EA pacific has done a rehash of the Command & Conquer series, BUT, this is NOT a bad thing.

After all, just as Red Alert 2 was not a very serious outing by Westwood(the opening story was incedibly lame), it made up for it with raw action. ANd that's what makes Generals great.

After all, when do you have the chance to pit the Allies, against the SOviets, against Nod ? It's just like the mix of Ordos, Harkonnen, and ATreides, only in the real world.

Truly good, and a definite outing for newcomers, and old fans who want to try out something different. A pity on the acting.
