Wondering if the infant did or did not kick him in the balls is inconsequential ; It's a goddamned infant! A six week baby is incapable of being actively malicious. It can't even aim for stuff with its appendages yet! Even if it somehow was a superhuman and did that on purpose, again, no reason to break its ribs. Seriously, the entire thing stinks of no self control or possibly alcohol.

Children sometimes accidentally cause injury to their parents, but nobody sane thinks that's a reason to punish them (ESPECIALLY with violence!) since they just plain don't know better.

Actually, he wasn't claiming he did it to punish the child, he's claiming he lost control after being kicked, and that anyone else would have, too.
I actually find it plausible that the child kicked him, plausible that that caused him to lose control, and if he has such non-existent control that the completely non-malicious and unknowing act of a newborn can so enrage him, he should be kept locked up to protect the rest of society.
If he thinks a newborn hurts, he should try them when they get to be toddlers.

I had that. Screamed for about six months, no matter whether I was warm, clean, fed, comforted...
The worst thing my parents ever did was be very tired, irritable, and occasionally hand me of to my uncle (who for some reason was able to play with a crying child for hours... good man...)

Yeah, if the guy had next to zero self control like is evident from the article, he could've snapped after only a night or two. Colics in most cases don't last more than two or three weeks, by week six the baby gets its own day/night cycle already, etc.

Of course some babies are insane, but still, beating it up would only make it cry more.

It's entirely obvious the guy has no self control ; It wasn't that he snapped because he had no sleep for fifty days straight, he didn't see anything odd or wrong about his reaction. But he'd still like to avoid punishment. Except he can't.
