Attack The Block

Post by Lost Soal »

OK, so I went to see this earlier this evening, even though I've not been sure about it initially, and its bloody brilliant.
I really enjoyed it throughout. The trailer plays up the comedy aspects but it is far more of a horror movie than a comedy, one which doesn't rely massively on jump scares either.
Very brutal in places without going over the top and good performances from the cast. I understand its getting a US release, but have no idea how wide it'll be, but if you get the chance I strongly recommend seeing it.
As for the rest of the Brits, anyone else seen this yet?

Saw it on Friday. Pretty damn good actually, a lot better than I was expecting from my friend's description of "london chavs versus aliens."

Mostly though I was satisfied that at least some of the bastard chavs got killed.

The ability the UK has to hate its young people never ceases to amaze me.

Going to see it on Tuesday. The consistent ability of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost to make good films reassures me.

While watching this film, I was struck by the notion that the kids were still more effective defenders of Earth than Torchwood. A bit sad really.

These particular young people begin the film by mugging a woman. Not all are like that, and of course, the film is rather more than a hate fest.

I've not seen this yet but I got the impression from reviews and the like that this was showing that these kids are badly behavioured because of their circumstances, not because of who they are.

I think that was the point.

I really liked the scene where Moses tries to explain/justify himself to Sam, and she just shoots him down and (as far as I could tell) shatters his worldview

Something like: "If we knew you lived int he block we wouldn't have murked you"
"So it's all right to mug people if they don't live here?"

And so forth. Very well acted I thought, even for a semi-serious film like this.

And IIRC Simon Pegg was in as an Executive Producer, while Nick Frost was Ron.

Finally got around to seeing it myself. As already mentioned - well acted and produced. Loved the dialogue the chavs came out with - "we've gotta catch 'em all!" "this aint fuckin' pokemon!"

It was also nice seeing the Fuzz being semi-competent as well, even if it was for entirely the wrong reason.
