I guess you would know better than me, Canadian resident.

Why would anyone be surprised by Creationism gaining momentum? Pseudoscientific nonsense is absolutely pervasive--crystals, transcendital meditation, UFOs, homeopathy, psychics of all stripes, and the rest of it. Creationism is just one more brain turd floating in the bowl, with the advantage that most people in this country are Christian already, so they're more comfortable buying into that than they are some New Age horseshit.

That's probably one of the reasons. Nonsense like belief in alien abductions, psychics, and scientifically impossbile doomsday scenarios are growing, so I'm not suprised why Creationism is gaining support. The only difference is that you don't see people sucessfully adding astrology or other new-age horseshit to school cirriculum.

And if Creationism is being taught in someone's classroom, they could at least heckle the teacher.

There is a reason why US Senators were originally elected by State governments and NOT by popular vote.
A part of the original constitutional structure I wouldn't mind seeing restored.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

If things get worse I am moving to one of 3 places out of college...

Germany. The culture fits my ideology and I am currently learning the language, after a Bachelors in Biology, and PH D in Zoology, and a minor in German I should be fluent :) I can still study reptiles like grass snakes and pond turtles

Canada, gaining citizenship will be easy, and I can still visit friends and family

Australia. lots of reptiles...lots of reptiles

Hmm... here in Denmark, the media made a lot of fuss out of a few fundamentalist colleges opening. But why do Americans tend to be more religious than Europeans?? (note: I mean West Europeans, not eastern europeans - who tend to be very religious)

For some reason, I don't seem to bump into many fundies in RL. I think it's because I hang with the "wrong"* crowd, or it's that I live in CA...

*To meet fundies, that is.
