I would agree but then the city survived at the bottom of the ocean for thousands of years without much damage. Without strain the power should be able to last thousands of years but given the Lucian Alliance hostility it seems rather silly to place Atlantis in a position where it could be attacked and failure of the shield will be an instant death for everyone. Especially silly to waste power when they dont have the ability to replace the power source.
