Back to playing eve online

Post by ArmorPierce »

Well I decided to give eve online another try. Anyone want to take me under their wing (so to speak) so that I am not just wondering around doing missions by myself?

'Take under wing'? Not at the moment, but me and a friend or two are going to be re-signing up after exams to start up some piracy. Care to join in when we start that?

I never really got too far with Eve. I might consider re-activating my account if people wanted to make a pirate coalition?

Well, me and at least one friend will be starting up after exams at the end of June. The ultimate goal is galactic conquest of course, but piracy is a potentially lucrative start. I'm just unsure whether to go Caldari because it'll be more useful in the long run, or Minmatar for the short-term gains in piracy... :?

Or you could be like me and go Gallente so that you're totally useless in large scale pvp. :D

As a Caldari pilot myself, unless you're intending to do a LOT of mission running, or really want to fly the Caldari ECM/logistics ships, I'd recommend going Minmatar. You can always cross-train to Caldari later if you want to pick up the Drake for blobbing or the Tengu for mission running and wormholes; training HMLs and HAMs doesn't take that long. Caldari have a few ships that really, really shine in their roles but right now in my opinion Minmatar just have an edge overall.

I've tried getting into eve three times over the past few years, but the game seems to be singularly unfriendly to newbies unless you're being brought in by a friend in an already established corporation/alliance. On top of that, carebearing in Empire didn't really strike me as a fun time, and most nullsec alliances don't recruit newbies openly (at least they didn't when I was trying eve out). So I've let my trial run out each time. Is there a way to get into the interesting bits of eve that doesn't involve either months of tedious grind to be palatable to a nullsec alliance or outside sponsorship?

I don't think so. I wouldn't trust people here necessarily neither to 'sponsor' you. I've seen sdnet members trying to scam fellow board members before.

I'd love to get back into eve. I really enjoyed it the first time, wandering around with a few days, setting up a mining company. Unfortunately, we gave up after about a week.
I'd rather buy x-3 or something like that. It's cheaper and less life eating.

Well, there's one way to get to the good parts of Eve, even null-sec, without joining an alliance or anything- piracy. If me, my friend, and the rest of you who are posting here were all Minmatar with Rifters we could probably make a combined income of maybe ten million or so in the first day. Assuming we go after cruisers and that sort of thing. I'll go with the piracy guide on how to outfit the cruiser and how much to demand from people for the privelege of surviving...

But yeah, I'll call this an official attempt to recruit people for piracy, starting after exams end at the end of next month.

Eh. Not really surprising. EVE seems to thrive on untrustworthiness.

I could be interested in that, though I can't say if I'll be able to sustain interest for a long period of time. There's also the matter of times zones.

Chicago Mean Time (CST)

When does the next expansion come out? Incarna will (allegedly) be including features as part of the Captain's Quarters that will make the new player experience less painful.

Really pleased with some of the recent 'small changes' - and the non-character related updates due when Incarna hits in June look to be awesome too, more ships receiving model and texture upgrades, total overhaul of turret and nebula graphics- Captain's Quarters is a bit of a side show for existing players, tbh- but it's going to be massive for no0bs.
