As I said, the Metabarons universe has factions armed with bombs with a blast radius spanning multiple universes. The main characters of the series, which the title is derived from, include a dynasty of ultimate warriors spawned by the first Metabaron whose groin got destroyed in combat so he had to impregnate his wife through a drop of blood into her uterus. The Metabarons partake in patricide, where to earn his title, the son must kill his father to prove his worth and earn the title of Metabaron. Amongst their elite member includes a headless Metabaron who built himself a robotic head, but replaced it with a poet's head so he could feel human emotions (before insulting his poet head, and forcing the head to kill itself), and an androgynous hermaphrodite Metabaron who fertilized himself in an act of auto-incest. Would you like to know more?

In these stories there is also a psychic woman who transforms into an ornithopter.

Shroomy, stark raving lunacy is no substitute for power; we know this because you are not a deity.

Now, the big honking bomb is something special, I'll admit.

Why not? The Culture humans are human (at least far as I can tell). The Kosmokraten aren't even from this universe.
Err-no, not really. Perryverse humanity (as opposed to the entirety of the Perryverse) is rather meek compared to the Xelee universe, or Skylark, or the Lensmen I'm afraid.
Depends, really. The Lemurans were pretty strong, the Galaktikum as well.
Maybe possibly up to Star Wars levels, with a few outliers that Star Wars couldn't hope to match (like those insanely fast stardrives or the Selphir Fataro device), but not in the same league as the Culture and the Xelee (at least as far as I know).

'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'

Not according to a few posters above you.

Well, the Galaktikum itself is pretty, pretty strong....but you know what? I think I'll concede this point rather than to argue it any further, too much time wasted on this already.

There was a half-human Time Lord, but most people here don't like it when you mention him.

How about the Ancients? Pre-Ascension, they seemd rather ahead of Star Wars, post ascension they command vast but ill-defined godlike powers and alledgedly infinite knowledge of the universe.

And that empire had no decent planetary shields?
Not that could stand up to the supernovae, it would seem. Or at least, most of their planets did not. There might have been exceptions; I seem to recall a shield that could take the planet-busting beam of the Valeron (more or less the same class as the DuQuesne) for some time, but without the book here to quote from I might be wrong about that.

Of course, even had they been possessed of such, he could have just dumped a small star each directly on the shielded planets as well. I highly doubt even Star Wars-grade shields would like that very much . . .

I would personally not call the Culture a human civilisation. Their "humans" seem roughly human-like, but their society is run by computers, and their military (or what passes for one) is more or less entirely roboticized. The humans are basically only there at the sufferance of the machines, as pets or mascots; if we call that a human society, our present-day one is a dog civilisation rather than a human one.

Pretty much nothing in this thread really compares with the Downstreamers, from Baxter's Manifold series. The descendants of humanity after 10^117 years, when confronted with a finite multiverse their response was to make it infinite.

If by human the OP means Earth humans then definitely not the Culture, one of the short stories has the Culture discovering Earth in the '70s and deciding to not contact, leaving it as a 'control' planet, with which to compare similar civilizations that would be contacted and to observe how humanity developed left to their own devices.
And yes I know later books intimated that they changed their minds and contacted Earth anyway but by that point the Culture had been a space faring civilization for over eleven thousand years, there's very little Earth humanity could have brought to the picture to change the state of Culture technology or society.
So I stare wistfully at the Lightning for a couple of minutes. Two missiles, sharply raked razor-thin wings, a huge, pregnant belly full of fuel, and the two screamingly powerful engines that once rammed it from a cold start to a thousand miles per hour in under a minute. Life would be so much easier if our adverseries could be dealt with by supersonic death on wings - but alas, Human resources aren't so easily defeated.

EDIT: I thinkthe Ancients from SG Verse are good contenders, as someone above said.

yay.

The trouble with the Ancients is, their non-interference means we see very little of what they can actually do. They are said to be god-like multiple times, but the most impressive thing we've seen is the time Oma destroyed a grounded Ha'tak, a few gliders and an army. They have considerable but ill-defined psychic powers, but they had those pre-ascension too. Similarly, Daniel says their knowledge is infinite, all we know for sure is that it exceeds the data processing/storage capacity of a Replicator horde large enough to invade the Milky Way. IIRC, didn't Thor once say that each replicator block had twice the capabilities of the human brain?

At best, we could calculate how much energy each individual Ascended has access to, assuming total conversion of a human body into energy give us... a very big number. Probably less than a star though.

Actually it wouldn't, at least not by SciFi standards (if you frequent the right kind of SciFi at any rate). Total matter to energy conversion for a 100 kg human would get you 9E18J. Half a year's worth of full power ZPM operation so marginally impressive by Stargate standards but no, nowhere near the power of a star, especially as that would be a single event, while stars do something considerably above this range continuously, all the time.

Are Downstreamers human, though? I never read the Manifold books, but the impression I get is that they are some kind of "post-human" creatures rather than flesh and blood.

They're certainly not human in the traditional sense of two arms two legs and two eyes, but they originated on Earth and we are their direct ancestors.

Well, when I read "human," I take that to mean just what it says. Not "was once human;" I would not, for example, post Dracula or any other vampire in a thread asking for the "strongest human fighter of fantasy fiction." Even though the Count originated on Earth and is the direct descendant of ordinary humans. :P

Why would the Ancients Power be limited to just the energy from there E=MC body's? there still able to effect reality, so they could always reach out and eat a planet or something.
