Dissapointment so far:

No control over research......dammit, I want to tell my guys to develop
the death ray of DOOM Mk3 instead of some dumbshit missile!
That's much more realistic Shep- how do you really know which tech is gonna give you which gun? The tech tree is huge- in most games you probably won't discover everything.

I'd like to at least have SOME control over it.....you know, like having
my top scientists come to me and say: "Lord Sheppard, our research
into energy has allowed us to achieve breakthroughs...it looks like our
research will allow us to come up with better engines or weapons...which
do you want, mein leader?"
"If scientists and inventors who develop disease cures and useful technologies don't get lifetime royalties, I'd like to know what fucking rationale you have for some guy getting lifetime royalties for writing an episode of Full House." - Mike Wong

That might be good- but I thought MOO3 already had the tech tree so you could look ahead a few steps?

The tech tree is a joke. It's all a random mess, with no FUN. It's more
like a giant crap shoot than a real sense of discovering things.

I like being surprised by new discoveries- MOO2 bored the shit out of me after the first dozen times of Class V shield.

I think some of the worst parts of the game is orbital
bombardment. It takes ages to depopulate a planet.
Oh and ground forces are not affected by orbital bombardment.
Combat is OK if you zoom out and the shipbuilding AI is braindead.

I bought it this afternoon. After 2-4 hours of playing I've finally figured out how to tell the game I want to build a ship. In contrast, I knew how to do that almost the moment I started playing MoO1. On the other hand, I do appreciate the new level of contol I get. I still have yet to play a space battle, so I don't know what that'll be like. I'm a bit worried about my bad mouse losing me some battles.
I prepared Explosive Runes today.

I can't get into this game at all for some reason :? It looks good but I can't get interested enough to play a long game.
