Coffee even went further:
Mr. Coffee wrote: No, I expect police officers to maintain their composure and keep a tight reign on their temper, same as I expect of anyone that carries a firearm around. As to the people who said the cop was stopping 'innocent people' to check for crimes, HE RECOGNIZED THE HOOKER. I think at one point he even called her by name. He pulled over a man who had a known prostitute in his car at a time of night when known prostitutes are plying their trade.

Thats called 'probable cause'. I see you with a criminal while acting like you're committing a crime.

BTW, does 'relieved of all duties' mean the officer got fired, or suspended indefinitely?

Tanasinn wrote:Emphasis mine in both cases. Excused might be a better choice of words. "A little" out of line? This guy didn't follow notification procedure, granted, and he did do a shit job of trying, granted, but he obviously did attempt. Doing a shitty job following that regulation doesn't mitigate or excuse the fact that the officer responded by threatening to assault a bystander and fly off the handle about shooting the guy. It doesn't matter what his reason for fucking up notification actually was - nerves, stupidity, soliciting a prostitute, fear of response -that doesn't reduce or mitigate threatening violence in response to a botched notification like the two of you seem to think.
Are you fucking impaired? Where in any of that did I say that I feel the officer in this case shouldn't be investigated and punished for it? For fuck's sake, I've stated twice now that I'm all in favor of Officer Harless being investigated and punished to the fullest extend the law provides, so either you're ignoring what I actually said quite clearly, you're cherry picking, or you didn't even bother to read the goddamn thread before posting. So which is it, ignorant, dishonest, or illiterate?

I never said that. What I said was that the man's retarded notification behavior didn't mitigate how the officer flew off the handle.

However, re:

I have to withdraw my argument. I hadn't seen that and thought you were minimizing the severity of the officer's actions more than you apparently were. It's quite clear I was wrong.

No. There are no standard questions on a traffic stop.
General Schatten wrote: Why that's just silly, that would require the officer to competently follow regulations.
  Did you just imply that you know police policy, Schatten?
Cosmic Average wrote: A disgusting display. The cop should be fired and sentenced to prison for making death threats and for threatening the woman with police brutality.
Calm down, Turbo. At the most those were misdemeanor threats. Nobody goes to prison for misdemeanors which is all verbal threats are when directed at individuals. Now, if they're terroristic threats then those are usually felonies.
Hamstray wrote: And if it's not a woman or not such a cheaply dressed one then not? (or maybe they would just briefly stop instead of conducting a thorough search) Sounds like discrimination based on gender and or class to me.
To you, maybe. To an experience police officer with years of work in the city dealing with prostitutes and the areas they frequent it is reasonable suspicion for an investigative stop under any court in the United States.
Tanasinn wrote: A bit part of it probably has to do with the fact that this officer got recorded threatening to murder or assault citizens and apparently forgot to "accidentally" lose the footage like usually happens when they record themselves in this manner.
I've heard this before like it is so common place but never heard it substantiated by evidence. Coincidence, probably not. At least when it comes to police threads.
Probably the guy that got pulled over took so long to finally choke out his carry notification because he was 1.) nervous at being confronted by a cop, 2.) didn't know the proper procedure, and/or 3.) was afraid the cop would start throwing a fucking temper tantrum (which, what do you know, he did!).
1 - Sure, he probably was nervous. However, the reason for being nervous is debatable. 2 - Really? He has a CCW permit which means he received training on the procedure which is not that damn complicated. "Officer, I have a CCW and I'm armed". BOOMSHAKALAKA! Done. There isn't a secret handshake...I promise. 3 - Possible. The officer was pretty aggressive with the way he was controlling the situation. Controlling movement is one thing. Controlling when someone talks is a bit overboard.
Uranium wrote: I bet I'd go to jail if I did and said what that officer did.
I doubt it. Threats have to be very specific and direct and would make a reasonable person feel like they are in danger. "What if I did this" doesn't really count. Neither does "I'm going to put lumps on you". It has to be more like "If you walk out that door I'm going to get my gun, find you, and then I will kill you"
CaptainChewbacca wrote: BTW, does 'relieved of all duties' mean the officer got fired, or suspended indefinitely?
I'm guessing it means he was fired. Which I think is the appropriate response because from the very start this officer was so intimidating and interupted the driver several times. That by itself isn't a big deal but then the freak out like he did when he should have known that he kind of created that situation is unacceptable. Hell, take away that atmosphere the officer created. The freak out is still not justified and is a sign of a risk to public safety. Charges probably aren't likely OR justified against the officer for reasons I stated above but he should be terminated because after this any future problems would be negligence on the departments part for not fixing an obvious future issue.

That being said. I have to agree with others. This isn't really a great example of police abuse. It kinda takes away from those that have endured actual abuse. The stop was valid. The arrest was valid. There was no excessive force. It was just very unprofessional and a warning sign.

If an armed, screaming man tells me he's going to "put lumps on me," I would think it reasonable to think that I am in danger- if not in danger of my life, at least in danger of a beating.

Am I wrong?

Threats regarding simple assault aren't usually crimes. However, it might be in Ohio. Look it up and see if they have a statute for threats...

I never knew there were specific rules of grammer when it comes to what exactly construes threatening language or threatening situation. Does it also apply to pronunciation and inflection of the words that describe the extent of bodily harm the officer alludes to in the conversation?

Actually, yes it would. Since loud screaming is a kind of pronunciation and inflection, isn't it? And makes it more threatening. :D

Doesn't this forum have a moratorium on hypothetical RARs concerning the POTUS, precisely because even "what ifs" do count and do get the attention of government law enforcement/security agencies?

Uh really. It's called the criminal code, Shroom. It is filled with nothing but specific rules and grammar for crimes. There's also court precedence which sets the standard. Prosecution has been pretty impossible for vague threats, or phrases of threats. That's why it needs to be specific. In this case even though his loud voice is certainly threatening there likely isn't a criminal code for the threat of simple assault. Otherwise police would be arrest people all the time for heated exchanges...

Yeah, that attention ranges from a knock on the door and some questions to charges and conviction. Now stop and ask yourself why that is.

Love this image, Mr Coffee, Got any more like it? (Like GrowASpineol?) If that guy had gotten prescribbed some, he likely wouldn't have gotten a CCW, he'd crush his enemies w/ his Uber Ballz of Steel. Also, he wouldn't need a hooker or a back-seat Mystery Man, since he'd have the manliness neccessary to pick up women legally at bars (or anywhere) w/ his Uber Ballz of Steel.

Besides, while protitution IS illegal, so was alcohol during prohibition & so was sodomy (even between & husband & wife) so some laws are injust & a waste of taxes to pursue & prosecute. Look at the hundreds of thousands of people in prison due to the drug war, then compare to Holland, the Land of Weed, Hookers & uncrowded prisons. Legal weed & hookers= less traffic stops=less cop shootings=less cops going supersaiyan w/ roid rage.

Yeah, three;

1: You're Awesome & have great taste (& taste great, since you're coffee )

2: If the guy had any real masculinity, he wouldn't need hookers, the gun & be able to speak up to a cop w/out wetting himself in abject terror.

3: That there are crimes worse than women giving sex for money (Isn't buying a fancy dinner for her or a fur coat much the same principle, except the Govt doesnt get salez tax in the exchange?) or someone getting a little high, which aren't worth the billions of dollars a year, millions of man-hours & thousands of casualties (people killed-wounded, families broken apart, the stress opf fighting an unending, unwinnable war [kinda like the War on Poverty (which was lost long ago) or the War on Terror]) to fight. Nevada has legal prostitution & California IIRC allows weed ('medicinal') & neither state imploded in mindless chaos (they just look like they have )

Points 1, 2 & 3 have been made.

You forgot he could be chode ugly or he could just want to bust a nut without all the bullshit associated with dating. He could also just be nervious as fuck around cops, not uncommon at all (most people tend to get nervous around them even if they haven't done anything wrong). As far as carrying a gun goes, I've had my CCW for almost sixteen years now and it has nothing to do with manliness, I just took the whole "be prepared" shit seriously when I was a scout and I believe it's my civic duty to responsibly keep and bare arms (maybe this mutt did to, ya never know).

I wasn't brown nosing, just saying you're pretty cool & made a little pun based on your name. I guess 'awesome' is more 'brownnosery' than 'cool'

I agree that having a CCW is a good example of being prepared & civic duty since it can stop a "Virginia Tech" or Mall Shooting situation, I'd have a CCW too if I could afford it (& a concealable gun. I only own longarms passed down for 4 generations & use em for hunting). Though if the guy was "fishing" fer a hooker, he wasn't really caring about civic duty, since prostutes are either slaves of a pimp, drug addicts or both. (legalizing prostitution & drugs takes power away from pimps & drug dealers & gangs) though her may have being soliciting her for his 'friend' in the back seat. And a real man romances a lady w/ genrosity & skill, not pay the lowest rung of femininity. Even an ugly guy can get hot women if he's funny & has charisma. Course, this guy seems to be lacking in all that.

The last statement was a point since this thread was only possible because a cop conronted a man presumably soliciting a prostitute, ergo, if prostitution (& drugs) were legal, the cop would've been unlikely to get in that situation, where he ended up losing his badge & looking like he was roid ragin'. & the drug remark was about that other thread where SWAT busted into a house & shoot 2 dogs. In Holland's Red-Light district & reeferbahn, how many people are cops arresting? Not many, I'm certain.

Take away the criminality, you take away the cause of police getting involved, which takes away the premise of the thread. The guy stays out of jail, the cop keeps his job.
Of course, it's roughly a 100 degrees in the shade here, (over 90 w/ the AC on full) so it's a little hard to be writing pulitzer worthy posts right now. It's Hot as Hell.
