This may seem a bit odd....But does anyone else here keep pets that arent covered in fur or feathers? That perhaps have scales perhaps claws and in some cases 147 or more razor sharp teeth? Or in other words...Does anyone keep reptiles around here?

If so, please elaborate

One of my previous fiance's kept reptiles. She had 3 pythons and an iguana. The snakes where lovely dispite one trying to eat my hand once when i was feeding it. I had been holding the defrosted rat by the tail above it and it didn't seem to want it so i called out to Anne Marie that it didn't seem hungry, No sooner had i said that then the thing launched like a well coiled spring and engulfed the entire rat and half of my hand. Then her iguana tried to whip me with it's tail just after.

Anne Marie and myself fell out when i threatened to turn the iguana into a belt.

My rule for pets is, if I would try to kill it with a shovel if I saw it in the yard, it's not a suitable pet.

Why would you try to kill say...turtles in you yard? Hell i refuse to kill venomous snakes.

I'd leave a turtle alone, unless it looked like one of the types that can bite your finger off. Snakes are dead, dead, dead.

One time, I was fucking this chick in the woods, and I looked up and there was a goddamned snake hanging from a tree branch watching us. It was like someone slipped me a triple dose of anti-Viagra.

I've never had anything but mammals as pets. Do you get a connection with reptiles? Are they intelligent or just 'living art' like fish? Do you feel that they care about you or are you just a source of warmth and foot? I ask this seriously. I don't know.

I actually do seem to have a one-way connection with them. You must remember that I have wanted to be a herpetologist since I was 7. I will devote my life to studying and preserving them. I get attached to my scaly friends like most "normal" people do to dogs cats and potbelly pigs. I know that they only consider me a source of heat and food, but I dont care. I still pic them u, hand feed them, and talk to them when I need to vent

I want a python, but my wife won't let me get one. She says if I get a snake, then she goes, and I want her around.

I had some Chinese water dragons. Great little animals, but I brought them to the beach one time and they drank too much salt water

You could take her to a reptile expo in your area. Convince her to handle the snake, hold the snake, pet the snake(I know what you're thinking) Convince her that snakes are cool, and that they cant harm her. Then perhaps get something small, eventually. maybe a Ball python something that cannot accidently kill you.

The very thought of snakes repulses Sherri in a way I've rarely seen. I've recommended some of those courses of action, and she refuses to entertain the idea and quickly forces me to close the subject post haste.

It's a very flexible rule. If Alyrium wants to keep a South Indian Death Snake or whatever, that's cool. If you're like me and you think gerbils are rats with good PR, that's cool too.

You could always keep your new friend in the attic(sp) or similar out of the way place. Sure she may get a little suspicious, what with you bringng in a rat once a week, but she will soon get used to it
