Anon says Rewrite the Manifesto

Post by LadyTevar »

CNN wrote:
Hackers want you to rewrite Norway gunman's manifesto

Hacking group Anonymous wants Internet users to find online copies of the 1,500-page manifesto of Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian man who admitted killing at least 76 people in a bombing and shooting spree, and then "change it, add stupid stuff, remove parts, shoop his picture, do what you like..."

The call for crowdsourcing of Breivik's diatribe, called "2083 — A European Declaration of Independence," was posted on one of the file-sharing sites used by Anonymous, which most recently breached NATO's security and also that of Italy's cyber crime unit.

The group that uses sharp words when it attacks its hacking victims, and is being hunted by police all over the world, is taking a moment out of its busy schedule to express its outrage over the Norwegian murders and what appears to be a madman's rantings.

Here's what Anonymous "suggests":

1. Find the Manifest of Anders Behring Breivik: 2083 – A European Declaration of Independence
2. Change it, add stupid stuff, remove parts, shoop (Photoshop) his picture, do what you like to.....
3. Republish it everywhere and up vote releases from other peoples, declare that the faked ones are original
4. Let Anders become a joke, such that nobody will take him serious anymore
5. Spread this message around the internet and real life, translate it
6. Have a moment for the victims of his cruel attacks

The group calls the effort "Operation UnManifesto."

As much as you may want to, you can't wipe away someone's words, although the act of doing so digitally may psychologically and temporarily provide a "feel good" moment, a way of fighting back.

Breivik's words — including his vows of “brutal and breathtaking operations” in order to stop “the ongoing Islamic Colonization of Europe" — are important because they may hold clues to other acts of terror that are planned. Investigators are pouring over the manifesto, hoping to learn more.

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

This is.... strange. Gut feeling says it won't work, but curiosity makes me wonder what the point is. Yes, I read it, and I know what they intend. But how does this happen? Whatever they try, the asshole won't be a joke, people will still see him as a murderer.

Worthwhile effort, nevertheless.

What.

On the rewrites...Chanology showed that anon could be something other than "LOLOLOLOLINTERNET", but that does not sound like anon. At all.

Anonymous (or rather, members of a loose group identifying itself with Anonymous) are wanted in connection with various cybercrimes. Usually piddling shit, but occasionally they do something flashy (like release sensitive client data of a company that uses illegal methods to protect intellectual property rights on the internet).

As to the idea, the old saying goes that you can't kill an idea. This actually seems to be an interesting take on doing just that - drown said idea in so much white noise and gibberish that it's impossible to extract from the sea of shit surrounding it.

You can strangle an idea with so much misinterpretation that the original meanings are lost, we should all know that. By repeating the same shit over and over you'd make people start to believe it eventually. Thus, the idea dies.

Plus, you can totally make a joke out of him, at least for the vast majority of people. A tragic joke, true, but a joke nonetheless. People joke about Hitler today (and did so back in the 70ies, see Monty Python), despite his crimes.

i can't help wondering what it would be like in Shroom speech.

I'm also tempted to redo it as Zulu, with Brevik needing the bodies to use as sandbags against an imanginry incoming muslim horde.
