I believe one or two pages back JonB stated the Starchaser was a dead end. Otherwise I would agree with you.

That being said, I second Astrogation. If that is not feasible, plasma grenades for the launcher.

I'll give the Starchaser a quick check for you guys. I know the research description wasn't in the game, so I'm not sure if the amount of man-hours for it is in there either.

EDIT: The Starchaser is not a dead-end. It's just that the UFOpedia info for it is missing both pre- and post-research. If you want to vote for it, go ahead.

Lets go with the Starchaser then, it should definatly take advantage of our newly expanded detection range.
This odyssey, this, exodus. Do we journey toward the promised land, or into the valley of the kings? Three decades ago I envisioned a new future for our species, and now that we are on the brink of realizing my dream, I feel only solitude, and regret. Has my entire life's work been a fool's crusade? Have I led my people into this desert, only to die?

Then I say Starchaser for the win! Besides, I am sure Barnest wants to keep up with the latest interceptor fashions from the other side of the galaxy.

The aliens would appreciate it too. After all, the only thing worse than some puny human blowing you out of the sky with burning plasma and sending you to your death is knowing that he used last year's model to do it.

I have a new laptop. Yay! Bad news is, during the upgrade from WinXP to Win7, I don't know where to place my saved games any more. Once I get that sorted out, I'll be back on track.
