linkAn unnamed 6-year-old girl in Albuquerque went over to her neighbors' home to pick up a pack of tostadas. That's when a man grabbed her, put his hand over her mouth, and shoved her into a blue minivan. Neighbor Antonio Diaz was only 15 feet away...
Martha and Antonio had gone to her mother's to do laundry when they saw a man in a blue van abduct a little girl
He'd left work early that day to spend some family time. But their washing machine had broken down, so he and his wife Martha had gone to her mother's house just a few blocks away to wash clothes.
They were unloading laundry from their truck when they heard someone yell that a girl was being abducted. Diaz turned around to find a man shoving in a little girl into a blue minivan.
As the driver drove off, Diaz jumped in his own truck and gave chase. He dropped Martha off at the office of a mobile home park to call police, then continued to chase 29-year-old Phillip Garcia for several miles until the kidnapper crashed his van into a light pole.
Garcia fled on foot. That allowed Diaz to jump from his truck, grab the little girl and take her to safety.
But Garcia soon returned to try to escape in his van. He was captured after he became stuck in a Mesa not far away.
The little girl is safe and sound. So are Antonio and Martha, who now say gifts and calls of congratulations are pouring in. People are even offering to make donations to a college fund for the couple's two children.

As a side note, Antonio Diaz came out and said he's an illegal immigrant.
Re: hero of the week
wonder if all illegals were like Diaz if people would complain more or less.

I'm hoping you didn't mean that the way it came off, but they're not. They're people, the same as everyone else, some are heroes, some are bastards. There are no generalities running through them as a whole other than the fact that they don't have legal citizenship, just as there are no generalities running through black people other than the general colour of their skin. In my opinion, saying an entire race/social class/ethnic group is 'good' is just as unproductive as saying they're all bad.dragon wrote:wonder if all illegals were like Diaz if people would complain more or less.

I give it eight months, spent in some horible ICE lockup, I wouldn't be surprised (disapointed, but not surprised) if he ends up being charged for the abduction. At least he's in New Mexico, and not Arizona or he'd already be locked up or gone.
Hopefully I'm wrong on this one.

I think he drove without a valid license too, don't you need a valid birth certificate and social security card?

Re: hero of the week
Depends on the state. Some states have started issuing IDs and licenses to illegals if I remember correctly.Themightytom wrote:I think he drove without a valid license too, don't you need a valid birth certificate and social security card?
