Tee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee... Whoa.

I must say what I've played so far totally rocks. I've only blown up a Russian supply truck, and took some dead-on shots at a plane, and I can't take-off or land properly, and it's hard to keep up with my wingmen, but it rocks. At least I know how to raise and lower my flaps now. :D

So, um, what now? Aren't there some essential add-ons or patches I should gwt soon?

That's about all I'll post for now. Might have to load it back up and shoot down another commie rat bastard.

Now you need to download the patches

Big multi-meg patches

4 hour download for the 1.0 -> 1.1 patch. Yum.

Oh well, more time to practice takeoffs (I can never get the plane to line up right, and the wheel brakes hardly help change direction for any useful amonut of time).

WW2 planes don't steer on the ground using the brakes. You need to use the rudder.

Brakes don't steer? Gee, no wonder my car doesn't go anywhere! :P

I was talking about using the wheel brakes in assistance with the rudder, of course. I'm getting the hang of it more, but I always have to switch to an outside view and keep lining the plane up as I accellerate down the runway. At least I've finally reduced my rate of crashes on the runway to almost none.

Oh, and I shot down my first plane on the 3rd German fighter mission. I tore that Pe-2's fucking tail to pieces with a two quick bursts. :D

Major W00t to this game. Only an hour and a half untill my 1.1 patch finally downloads at 4.8K a second...

Well, I've gotten the game patched to 1.2, and played through the campaign for about 12 missions total. Damn, it is really hard to get shots in, even when lined up exactly. I have to move in under a distance of .3 (is that .3km, or some other unit?) and fire very brief bursts. I've racked up only 5 planes killed so far, but considering my wingmen are kill-stealing pig, I guess it's not too bad.

Oh, and I made pics, 'cause that's what I do! :D

Yes, those are of the same plane in the same quick mission. There was a second bomber that I Managed to take out after this one.

Image
That's a recon plane from one of the campaign missions. I just softened him up with some machine gun fire, then plugged him with one shot (I and I think *only* one. He was in good shape a second before) from my 15mm cannon and the son of a bitch just blew up like a firecracker. This pic was taken right on the explosion; half a second later his bits were flying out everywhere.

My pilot name is 'Todritter' d'Armand, Todritter meaning 'Death knight', and the last name is an older variation of my name; I thought I needed something more European to defect to the Father Land with (though I might change it to 'von Armand' if I feel like it). It's probably one of those pilot callsigns that only the pilot himself uses. :P

Speaking of which, I made a cutsom skin for myself, those are always fun. I only wish I could use it in the campaign.

Image
This is a Bf109-E7, a long-range variation if I recall, as I prefer it's weapons layout over the F2's.

Image
This one's of the F2, complete with dashing young pilot.

No, the E-7 was the specialised Jabo ground attack variant of the 109E.

Oh, that's right. It's got a bomb rack that can also be used to carry a fuel tank, that's what got me confused. I ought to remember to try out some bombs, they might come in handy.

Not to sound preachy, but think about changing your name to Todesritter if you want it to make any sense. Todritter sounds more as if you are dead instead of bringing death.

Then again, considering how often I've been crashing, 'Dead knight' might be more appropirate fow now.

but yeah, I'll probably change it tomorrow, and do something about scrapping/redoing those pics. Good thing I still have the tracks for them, at least.

You can use the compass to tell you if you're lined up from inside the cabin. Just remember which way the runway is supposed to be facing, and you won't need to switch views in order to keep your plane aligned.

(I don't know if airfields during WW II had runway numbers reflecting the direction you needed to go in order to land on it?)

Huttah! Update!

I think I'm starting to improve in downing those commie rats. Thanks for the tips, Shep. Those IL-2 are no match for my outdated Messerschmitt now.

To celebrate, I redid my pics and changed my callsign to "Todesritter."
