Funny stuff at my school (Iraq related)

Post by 2000AD »

A group of students at my school tried to organise a anti-war protest by striking on wednesday. Ignoring the fact that their slogan was "Education not War", but they were going to skip a lesson to protest, the funniest thing was the teachers basically said f*ck off in polite terms. Even though they're 6th formers the teachers said they couldn't do it because it would encourage the lower schoolers to skive off as well, and the lower schoolers at my school are comlete arseholes!

On a side note my Russian friend at the school ( a self confessed communist) has branded me a Nazi just because i'm for the war on Iraq (more specifically war on Saddam, but that's not going to happen). Ooooookaaaaay then.

I have a bunch of dumbasses that wear shirts every week that says a predictable and boring "make love, not war." I ask them "Cant we make both simultaneously? They say no, because killing is wrong, no matter what. Even if a country threatens us with smallpox, another country threatens us with nukes, and launches a missle near japan as a display of power. It's still wrong to defend ourselves from pyschos with weapons of mass distruction.

Yeah, really, Bush might seem a bit trigger happy at times, but, at least his head is screwed on straight and he doesn't have complete control over the military.

Dude, Bush.. head screwed on correctly? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah??

Look, I don't agree with the war with Iraq. The reasoning and justifications are quite inane. Under those excuses, we should be going after every dictator and about 90% of the world. If anything, I would support a war with North Korea if I wasn't scared it would lead to armageddon and think about all those cute girls in Japan and Korea that might die?!!!

But, war seems inevitable. So let's support our boys and girls that are deployed or being deployed and bring them home safely, and bomb the fuck out of those human shields before ground troops land so they don't provide a distraction :-D

Some are worried that the Russian stocks of smallpox were not kept securely, especially after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Same thing at my school. It's ridiculous. Thankfully, the California high school exit exams means that the schedule has been fucked up anyway.

My school has those "Make love, not war" people too. But they don't seem like the militant types.

Yes, he does. A man doesn't get to be president if he can't pass college. You also have to have a bit of sense, which, he does have.

And the reasons are totally inane? WTF? I guess that having WMDs capable of striking allies in the middle east in the hands of a madman who doesn't flinch at the thought of killing a close relative to keep his power secure isn't a bit of a good reason. I am sure that the little part about him firing missiles at our planes as they patrolled a UN sanctioned no-fly zone is also just a stupid excuse. Oh, and must we remember the repeated violations of UN 1441?

Oh, and NK will most likely be next on the list of 'dictators with delusions of world domination to take out'.

This is what I truly love about this place. A place where miltarism is allowed to actually be expressed without being denigrated. People here actually can see that use of force may be necessary, though unpleasant to try and restore order to that region

We have lecturers here who are parading around with their "no war" badges and tshirts.
I refuse to wear them. Doesnt make me very popular, but there you go..Id rather stick to my principles than be popular

I think its an insult to the soldiers that are preparing to give their lives so that they can prevent others from suffering under saddams regime. I dont care if they support the war or not. Protest against the politics or whatever, but dont insult the courage of those going to face this event. Support them, even if you dont support the war. But of course they dont see it that way

I go to school in San Francisco so you just KNOW that I have deal with these "classmates" of mine.

Example:
Him: So have you gone to any of the peace marches

Me: Well considering the fact that I support war on iraq, that wouldn't exactly be appropriate.

Him: Oh

*5 second pause*

Him (as if he's asking me what I'm having for luch): Well do you wanna nuke 'em?
Yes.....because I'm for kicking out a dictator, I must be for a nuclear holocaust. that will kill untold millions. Brilllllllllllliant.....

Under those excuses, we should be going after every dictator.

And you consider this a bad thing why? :?:

Hmmm, I think it's a lot easier to bark for war when you won't be the one who has to go there. If everything goes the way the optimists are predicting, the war will be a good idea in the end. But what if everything doesn't go that way? Crystal balls aren't entirely reliable, and there are some volatile pressures in that region.

Having said that, the Kurds really, REALLY want the US to invade and seize control of Iraq :)

God help us if this war goes badly. Not only will thousands of people die (mostly Iraqi), but it will undermine everything we're trying to do to prevent September 11 from happening again. We're trapped in a position where it's not enough to just win the war--it has to be a quick, unmitigated asskicking to be "successful".

I'm all for making those bastards suffer as we have suffered. Maybe if they get hammered by a few hundred cruise missiles in a few hours, they'll know how the workers in the WTC felt.

The minute selective service swings into motion and starts calling young american boys to the colors, I'm not gonna wait for my number to come up. I'll go right down and ENLIST.

Personally, I'm rubbing my crystal ball, trying to see if the ironic outcome appears: Iraq deciding it likes American rule best, and in 2010, is made the 51st State Of The Union.

Not to add to concerns, but there are suitcase sized nukes... Granted, they're all less than 1kt, but placed in a large city...

The unnerving fact is that Russia is missing 48 of them... This is from a fairly reliable source (Nova on PBS). You'll still need access codes etc to set it off, but it's still bothersome...

I'm more worried about something simpler, like poisoning the water supply, emp, etc.

Poisoning a water supply is a lot harder than it seems. Dilution is a big factor. Dumping poision into a resevoir probably wont do much. Attacking a specific building might be more realistic.

But those have probably had their tritium supply go bad, so in all likelyhood, they'd just fizzle.
