Ughhh...let me guess, earthquake shot?phongn wrote:'Tis all that mattered. Though once when we were shooting elsewhere I had to use my dad's friction-head tripod (very light, though) and, well, the results weren't too pretty when we panned.
SCSI inherently unstable maybe? I've heard a lot of weird things about SCSI.phongn wrote:Yes. When the Avid boxes came in there was much rejoicing. And when the SCSI drives began failing they was much screaming (it happened here and there for some reason; I fear what happened to CNN since our order was tagged on to it).

Not to mention the fact that a roll of decent film can cost thousands, while a decent-length DVCPRO tape can go for under fifty bucks...phongn wrote:Well, film does have a better light-capture range than video, but the latter is so much easier to work with. And Lucas's custom 24P HD cameras look decent.

Oh gee Ando, I'm sorry. I forgot I had to consult you before I decided to start discussing an interest of both me and Phong in the Off-Topic forum.weemadando wrote:Guys, this board has a wonderful thing called PM.
Or even e-mail...
Should have made more room for you and your political ranting.
I'll delete this thread, just for you.

I'm just pointing out that if this was to be a closed conversation between Phong and you there are better mediums.Dalton wrote:Oh gee Ando, I'm sorry. There was a reason I let this thread continue, and that was to let other A/V-heads jump in if they wanted to. Including, but not limited to, HemlockGrey, DW and Durandal.weemadando wrote:I'm just pointing out that if this was to be a closed conversation between Phong and you there are better mediums.

Righty then, back to angling for jingoists for me.Dalton wrote:There was a reason I let this thread continue, and that was to let other A/V-heads jump in if they wanted to. Not...quite an earthquake, but not smooth.Dalton wrote:Ughhh...let me guess, earthquake shot?phongn wrote:'Tis all that mattered. Though once when we were shooting elsewhere I had to use my dad's friction-head tripod (very light, though) and, well, the results weren't too pretty when we panned.
It's not, the drives tend to be much more robust than IDE drives. It's strange, IBM's IDE drives had a bad spate, but their SCSI drives are usually solid.SCSI inherently unstable maybe? Indeed. That, and you have to digitize the film...Dalton wrote:Not to mention the fact that a roll of decent film can cost thousands, while a decent-length DVCPRO tape can go for under fifty bucks...phongn wrote:Well, film does have a better light-capture range than video, but the latter is so much easier to work with. Still bad enough. Ugh.phongn wrote:Not...quite an earthquake, but not smooth.Dalton wrote:Ughhh...let me guess, earthquake shot?
There's still a lot of SCSI voodoo that goes on, right? I was reading some anecdotes about it on the Jargon File.phongn wrote:It's not, the drives tend to be much more robust than IDE drives. Yeah, but you have to develop it first and deal with huge reels...phongn wrote:Indeed. That, and you have to digitize the film...Dalton wrote:Not to mention the fact that a roll of decent film can cost thousands, while a decent-length DVCPRO tape can go for under fifty bucks...
