It's good to see that Volition has taken the complains about lack of Tron in SR2 seriously. It shows they're active and engaged in the community.

? The Tron stuff is obviously actual game content. You can see the in-gamey bits easily.

All I have to say about this is that I read the review of the game in GameInformer a bit ago, and it includes a giant truck with Johnny Gat's face (and a flamethrower cigarette), fursuit-on-cop violence, and a girl riding a hover-bike of some kind whilst being chased by some kind of futuristic jet with a flamethrower.

It looks, to say the least, fscking awesome.

Let's be honest. When you put out a trailer like this:

It means that you are pretty much giving up on doing anything but making your game MORE AND CRAZIER.

I wonder if it will still be maaaaaad buggy and crash me out when I try to do certain missions?

No, you can promote your game with material of any sort and still have a game in there. You're just too gonzo to look beyond style over substance.

And Vympel, the SR2 had mechanics that made the game fun to play for ages. I'm not convinced SR3 will even be fun to play once, let alone for yonks. Self-consciously outrageous doesn't make something fun, no matter how much people like Ando might piss their pants over 'crazy' trailers.

The gameplay from the trailer here seems to not be all that different from SR2 from what they've shown. I suppose that there might be major changes in the way it plays, but they aren't obvious on-screen.

I mean, how often am I to enter a game of riddles with the author, where they challenge me with some strange and confusing and distracting device, and I'm supposed to unravel it and go "I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE" and take great personal satisfaction and pride in our mutual cleverness?

Yeah, the starting gameplay looks fine, although I haven't seen anything about the territory game etc. I'm more interested in playing the game than getting excited about how 'crazy' the game will be.

Actually my point was that they're making such a hoo-hah over "LOOK HOW CRAZY WE ARE" rather than saying: "Hey, guess what, your game won't crash, you won't get trapped in/fall through terrain and we've actually made improvements to the engine so the framerate doesn't crash when shit gets crazy."

I know which I'd prefer to know about.

Sure, show me gangs and crazy cutscenes, but also let me know that you've fixed the fundamental issues from your prior iteration.

It's Volition? :V

But the Genki shit was pushing preorders and probably didn't cost $5. Nerds loved it, so oh well, divert QA time to fanservice. :) It'd be funny if they were hoist by their own marketing spin.

Man, my girlfriend and I are super excited for this game and this trailer still made us go "what the hell?" and not in the good way.

Just remember if there's a day-one patch, it's the patch for stuff they didn't fix because of the Genki Content. :)

Was...was that a Daikatana joke?
For what it's worth, I didn't run into any glitches at all on SR2; never played SR1 myself. Then again, I was on the PC version of SR2, so maybe they actually fixed some bugs in the transition from console to computer?

Oh god no. SR2's PC version was a steaming pile of unplayable garbage. Literally. On three different computers, I have been able to launch the game precisely once, total. Most bad PC ports at least have the grace to just suffer from blatant consolitis in the UI/control scheme, not just sit there and fail to even get far enough to find that out.

Still, it looks like they're actually developing in tandem this time, rather than doing a hack-job port, so I've my hopes.

I doubt it. It looks like mostly media and a bit of prop scripting, that stuff has relatively little QA impact. The thing that overwhelmingly chews up QA time is mission scripting, followed by physics interaction modes, character AI and checking level geometry for glitches.

I'm told duento the 'success' of the pre-order trailer there will be actual Genki missions etc. Doubtless forum polls told them this was a worthwhile use of time. We could assume that is late they're already in a good place QA-wise, but I've played Volition games and laugh at the idea.

Forgot about this thread:-

Well, I'm optimistic. I don't think that Volition would change something that worked really well in the last game for no reason, but more importantly, I like the crazy shit in the trailers (SR2 had the same sort of advertising, really, just not as out there) because its a reaffirmation of why I enjoyed the shit out of SR2 so much that it made GTA4 look like a grey, boring-ass chore.

I got SR2 on PS3 (reports of the bad port shooed me well away from the PC version) quite a while after it came out and I didn't encounter any bugs except for one time I fell through the world. So I was pretty happy on that front.
