Yeah! 1632: the TV show. How could it not be awesome? Marines go back in time and decide to freedomize the Roman Empire. Hoo-rah!

This is going to suck nine kinds of ass

Wasn't there a thread that was on this exact subject a few months ago?

Erwin set out to answer the question: "What if a unit of current U.S. Marines are suddenly transported back to ancient Rome and forced to do battle with the Roman legions?" Pic will follow the Marines as they're flung into the past where they encounter one of the world's most legendary villains and disrupt history. To return home, they have to set history back on the track they altered.
Any bets as to who they are talking about? Also it doesn't look like a 1632 style trip as they have to "set things right", which makes me sad. I always like seeing ancinet cultures punted ahead hundreds of years.

WHY

WHY

WHY????

BURN THE FILTH. :kill:

Goddamn this was a stupid idea. I hope the Marines' armor is made in China and splinters as soon as a Roman soldier pokes it. Then they crucify all the heretic Americans who came there, thankfully ridding the world of such trash. :P

So, how long do you think before the Marines starve to death/die of disease/run out of supplies/get murdered by the legions?

Wait, these are 'MURICAN marines. So they'll probably bring freedom and democracy to the Empire or something like that. Man this is a bad idea.

There's an interesting back-story to this movie. It's based off of some guy's fanfiction ("What if a Marine Expeditionary Unit was sent back in time to 23 B.C.?") that became extremely popular on Reddit. The links to the story itself are located here, at the end of the introductory paragraphs before the interview.

Anyone want to spork the story itself? Thanas? I've read parts of Days 1-3, and I'm not really impressed.

I think what is most shocking here isn't the subject of the story in itself, but the fact that they are basing their TV-show on an effin' Webfic !

Let's just hope they don't discover The Big One.

Nah, the subject matter is probably too controversial to show directly in a big-budget movie.

I've read the whole thing. I am very much unimpressed - there are tons of better stuff out there (also, lol at the complete mess of things made out of the Praetorian guards, the legions etc....). Heck, I bet I could write a better story than that.

It reads like very bad fanfiction.

Nonetheless, my point still stand. Should we expect a TV-show be made from Zor's RARs! anytime soon ?

I maintain that good direction, writing, and casting can turn even the most absurd of premises into something watchable, even fun. That said... as far as I can tell this show will have none of these things, and will thus suck.

So how do we find the source webfic?

We should have the Marines bring their retarded True Blue American ideals of oligarchic rule, warfare against poor brown people and suspension of liberties in favor of religion and then find out the Romans already have that. America was based off of the Empire, remember! :D

Guardsman Bass already provided a link... at least I think it is a link to the story. Direct link:
http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comme ... ng/c2giwm4
http://www.reddit.com/r/RomeSweetRome/c ... _7_part_2/
http://www.reddit.com/r/RomeSweetRome/c ... wu0/day_8/

I can see why you'd be confused as it seems less a story and more a plot outline. I've seen chapters on fanfiction.net that were longer than this whole story.

Dude, it is frightfully easy to picture Augustus as a full-blown villain, especially if you have read about the early part of his life. I mean, executing troops who surrendered as POWs, killing civilians, reign of terror, murder lists, corruption etc...name it, chance are it is there.

Yeah, but they said it was the most legendary villain in Roman history. Augustus may have done alot of brutal things, but that doesn't get him to the number one spot. I'm pretty sure Caligula could beat him for general depravity or Attila for slaughtering people. And those are just the names that are the most recognizable- I'm sure there are a ton of others who can get into the psychotically brutal category.
