Amsterdam
i just came back from a 4 day trip to amsterdam. it was my first stay there and definately not my last one.
that city is so kick ass, folkes. everything is so relaxed there. the people, the cops even the trams seem a bit more at ease than else where.
we went to the van gogh museum which was nice but way too crowded. after that we decieded to see the porno museum which was fun as well. actually we wanted to visit more museums but then we decided that looking at the city which is beautiful would be better.
AND I WANT COFFEE SHOPS HERE!!! boohooooo!!! how can it be ok on the other side of the border to sit into a coffee shop order a gramm of weed and start puffing it away and here you get fined and sent away!!! BWÄÄÄHÄHÄHÄHÄHÄHHÄHÄÄÄÄÄ!!!!

Well, salm, that's two things we agree on. Marijuana prohibition is for shit.

Yaaaar!
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

oh, really? that´s cool. so how does it work? the shops exist, the police know about them, but don´t really care?Darth Pounder wrote:England is sprouting a few "Coffee Shops". They are still highly illegal but with 100,000 odd fecking illigal imagrants in the UK the police have more than wacky backy to worry about.

Of course, since we all know marijuana is really the Demon Weed, it's much better that people go to jail for smoking it like they do in America, to protect them from themselves (everybody knows that there's no safer place than prison. For that matter, everybody knows that there's no drugs in prison.) That's much better than the insane Dutch way.

*imagines stories about illegal grass he´s going to tell his children who wont understand why it used to be that way, just like children from now can hardly believe that being gay was illegal 30 years ago as well*
anyway, if you ever go to amsterdam be sure to check out the other things as well. the coffe shops are nice but there´s a lot more stuff to look at.
of course you can combine both and double the fun.

One of my foundest memories of Amsterdam are the blond chicks cycling all over the place, steering with a hand and talking by cellphone with the other. Living in a city where cyclists have to give way to idiot drivers, it was refreshing to see the opposite is possible.
That, and the coffee shops.
And I also loved the channels, the town centre buildings and the way the ciy connects to the sea.

No, it's not. Our laws are very conservative on that, and bound to be reformed. Basically, all light drugs are illegal.salm wrote:

A while ago, a german father and son were sent to jail because they were caught cultivating it in their yard (they were arrested to prevent them from leaving the country before trial)

Doesn't matter, relaxing attitudes in Europe are bound to change those laws.
Now if only those damn Conservatives took their tentacles out of our government, this stuff could happen in the U.S. (Not like it isn't happening anyways, most of the people I know smoke pot, it's not like it being illegal stops them)

My brother is currently studying in Italy, and made a weekend trip to Amerstdam recently, and had a few interesting things to say....
He said if "Hell had a party, it would be in Amesterdam". He went on to comment that while pot was pretty much legal, the harder shit like coke and heroin was still outlawed. He saw alot of drug addicts and junkies lying around, and made a comment that it actually was annoying after awhile, because he got asked for dope alot. Apparently lots of seedy looking characters were hanging about as well.
Granted, this is all a second hand account. If you're into that kind of shit, well, amsterdam is probably the place for you. Me, I guess hearing that account of the city cured me of my desire to visit. I'd rather see a place like Florence, or Salzburg, if you ask me.

hmm... i can´t remember any junkies hanging around. i didn´t get asked for dope at all. i got asked i i wanted to buy cocaine or extacy a 2 times but that was no problem. you just say no and they leave you alone.irishmick79 wrote:My brother is currently studying in Italy, and made a weekend trip to Amerstdam recently, and had a few interesting things to say....

i just heard that stuff like heroine addicts in holland are considered cronincal sick people by a lot of dutch, so that drug doesnt appeal to to the dutch youth at all.
anyway, amsterdam is a good location to go to even if you don´t want to get stoned. it´s simply a beautiful city with lovely old and great modern architiecture. the whole city is really well designed with great veiws (which is remarkable since there´s not the slightest trace of a hill there) and little, interesting, narrow streats whith hardly anithing going on in them, right next to a big ass, filled up, crowded pedestrian area. the city´s got a lot of contrasts.
damn, it could be the same here if it hadn´t been for that damn war.
another reason to hate nazis.
