Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire: Windows 7 troubleshooting

I have recently bought both AlphaCentauri and Crossfire, but only the original AlphaC game works. Any advice?

Win Vista can work... messily, Win7 is all sorts of weird.

Use your Google Fu, I'd like to say I have an answer but it "just worked" for me, which apparently happens for a lucky few.

I didn't user the launcher, just ran the crossfire .exe directly, made sure it's set to winXP/2000 compatibility, 256 colours, etc etc

I have actually tried every solution I came across. It tells me "your CPU is not supported. you may continue to play the game, however crashes are possible. do you wish to continue? Y/N" either one results in the game shutting down. Also, the compatibility mode attempt gave me "program error: C:\Windows\system32".

Is this a lost cause?

Do you have a multi-core CPU?

If you do, try setting the processor affinity for only one core.

Did you try adding "ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=1" to the Alpha Centauri ini? It's what made it work in mine.

You could just buy it again from gog.com. I'm quite sure that one would work under Win7.

I'm surprised no one brought up the compatibility patch. I used it to get the game to work under XP. From my meager google fu skills, the patch should work for Vista and 7 too.

It does, but it doesn't have Alien Crossfire included.

I'll think about buying that one myself- since I never really liked Alien Crossfire that much anyway.
