Rick Perry asks New Hampshire: Repeal Gay Marriage Law,

Post by Crossroads Inc. »

Amongst other things, via Huffington Post
Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry, campaigning in New Hampshire Friday, praised legislators in the state for working to repeal the state's same-sex marriage law.

"As conservatives we believe in the sanctity of life. We believe in the sanctity of traditional marriage," Perry said at the annual banquet for Cornerstone Action, a conservative advocacy group. "And I applaud those legislators in New Hampshire who are working to defend marriage as an institution between one man and one woman, realizing that children need to be raised in a loving home by a mother and a father."

In June 2009, New Hampshire became the sixth state to legalize gay marriage. On Top Magazine reported that a bill to repeal New Hampshire's gay marriage law passed a House committee this week.

In his speech on Friday, Perry also praised efforts to defund Planned Parenthood.

"Unfortunately this current administration has since provided one million dollars in federal grant money to Planned Parenthood in direct conflict with this state's policies. And the bottom-line is this: If you want to stop Washington's many violations of the 10th Amendment ... then we must make President Obama a one-term president," Perry said.

In June, New Hampshire's Executive Council voted 3-2 to end the the state's $1.8 million contract with Planned Parenthood. The Obama administration restored the funding in September.

In August, Perry signed a pledge to support a constitutional amendment against gay marriage.
Once we again we see that the GOP's support of "States Rights" ends the instant a state does something they don't like...

Now I could be wrong, but as far as I know after Gay Marriage was put into effect, it has had rather wide support in NH in terms of popularity. I guess Perry must buy into the lie that "The People" of America would NEVER support evil gays, and thus will be happy to rise up to ban evil gay marriage. Personally in NH, I bet this may cost him more votes then it gets.

Did he really have a chance in NH to begin with? If not, this is a way to score points with the base elsewhere, say... Iowa.

Romney is polling at 40% in NH, so no, he never had a chance there. Once Cain crashes and burns he might have a fighting chance in Iowa, FL and SC, though.

If he was trying to score points in Iowa, he should probably be telling Iowa to abolish gay marriage.

Do those damn conservatives realize that they have no right to stuff their own beliefs down everyone's throats? Especially in America where everyone has freedom of speech, worship, press, sexuality, freedom from persecution, from fear, etc. under the law?
Life sucks and is probably meaningless, but that doesn't mean there's no reason to be good.

LOL.

Not that I agree with them, it's just funny that you bitch they don't have the right to say stuff like that in America where everyone has freedom of speech...

LOL

He's talking about 'stuff[ing] their own beliefs down everyone's throats' by changing the law to repeal people's rights-not quite the same thing as speech. Did you even read the rest of the thread?

LOL, the other six posts? Yes. We live in a representative democracy, you're supposed to express you're views for public policy and vote for the scum... er politician who bests matches you're views. Kind of the way it works. Freedom of speech is freedom to espouse political beliefs, even if you don't like em. Now, I don't like their ideas, and if they are on a ballot where I live, I'll vote against them. But they sure as shit do have a right to say stupid offensive shit in America where we have freedom of political speech, assembly, and association.

To elaborate more, did you read the posts?

Rick Perry has shit all to do with New Hampshire, and every right to spout out his particular brand of bullshit; every bit as much as you have the right to call him a douche for saying that, and the right to vote against his bullshit (if you're an American that is). Same goes for the local shitheads and their bullshit in New Hampshire.

Thing is, New Hampshire people don't like it when outsiders tell them how to do things. We barely tolerate people from Massachusetts and they're one state over from us.
