Next week a movie is coming out, called In Time. Though I feel they should have kept the working title I'm Mortal.
Dystopian future where medicine makes biological immortality possible. However, people aren't going to stop having kids, and we're nowhere near space colonies, so an artificial scarcity is created. The filthy rich get to be basically immortal, everyone else is given a set allotment of years to live, and time- seconds, minutes, hours, days, years on the bioloical clock becomes the unit of exchange worldwide. The banks store computers with time on them, eveyone of the lower classes had a digital display on their arms showing how much time is left. Though everyone is physically 25 until the very moment their time runs out.
The protagonist, Will, is a lower class man almost out of time man, who meets an eccentric rich guy who gives him a century and thus suicides. He is wanted for this man's murder.
Is anyone else going to see this? What do you think of the premise?

Re: In Time movie
Sounds interesting, but there are almost no good actors in that movie. I just couldn't get past the "this is just so cheesy and fake" factor.

This is pre-WWII. You can sort of tell from the sketch style, from thee way it refers to Japan (Japan in the 1950s was still rebuilding from WWII), the spelling of Tokyo, lots of details. Nothing obvious... except that the upper right hand corner of the page reads "November 1931." --- Simon_Jester

Ignoring Zor is fun, but he made a thread on this movie a day ago. Did you even check?

I put up this thread almost two weeks ago. It took this long for somebody to respond.

Re: In Time movie
The premise seems interesting even with the shades of Logun's Run feeling I get from it. Actually the total vibe I get from it is Gattaca spliced with Logun's Run. At least it's not a remake.
Definitely not something I find worth shelling out to see in the theater. I might see it on video.

Re: In Time movie
You mean it took until the movie coming out for anyone to care? Zor's thread has more activity (ie wasn't instantly ignored) and skgoa should have kept it in one place.Ahriman238 wrote:Ah, no?

Now the overworked mods will have to merge it. Yay!
Re: In Time movie
That thread has "(spoilers)" in it's name. I haven't seen the movie, yet. Notice anything?

Re: In Time movie
I enjoyed it, but I was also expecting an action movie with a thin sci-fi premise, kind of like a lot of Schwarzenegger movies, so I wasn't disappointed.Tsyroc wrote:The premise seems interesting even with the shades of Logun's Run feeling I get from it. I'm afraid this one is probably going to be remembered as 'the movie where a bunch of people had digital clocks on their arms.'

Re: In Time movie
The time is money metaphor was a good find. The realization as done in the movie... not so much. The concept carried more in it than they could squeeze out of the metaphor. You could've made the dystopia tens of times more realistic (as, indeed, a more ruthless and cruel punch with a rebellion of the shortlived against the immortals, which would be awesome since shortlived would have a complete disregard for their own lives whereas immortals would fear death like hell). Instead the robinhoody chap does all and all the rest do nothing. A bit of a letdown. This could've been a terrific movie but it's just okay.
