The Char-B's were far better than the dinky Pz-II's, Pz-III's and Pz-38t's used in the blitz.
Not only was the French doctrine wrong, but the Char-Bs while having thicker skins, were inferior designs to the German tanks. Their commanders were overworked, and thus, their tanks were less effective. Note this has nothing to do with surrendering.
However the French sat on their asses behind the Maginot Line and didnt bother to read a single thing on the war theories being published and implemented in Germany and stoically committed the fundamental error of preparing to re-fight the last war, rather than the next war.
The Maginot line would've stopped the Germans handily if it had actually been completed.
Drop me in to Paris in 1939, and find a way to get me into a command position in the French Army and I'll stop Germany cold at the Belgian border. Actually 38 would be better , gives me two years to beat the dead wood out of the High Command and re-train the Armor and Infantry, and prep for the coming offensive.
The Belgian border? You do know that they came through the Ardennes and the Belgian border is exactly where they want you to GO, so the forces up in Belgium can hold you while they come round and kick you in the ass?

You should also realize that you're using 20/20 hindsight.

I already explained it long ago moron. But i'll do it again just for you.

I have a problem when people lie about what millions died for and what there's deaths and the army they served accomplished, or why they flailed. Calling them surrender monkeys along with most French bashing in does both.

And you might have noticed that I don't attack casual French bashing or attacks on there government. It is the French government, not the nations military that does things people dislike France for. But of course such advancing reasoning is beyond you.

Then I guess you wouldn't be a huge fan of the first part of my sig then, huh?

And I've never understood why people get all mad if someone asks something that someone else answered a "long" time ago. There are new people here who weren't around at the start, y'know, and in case you hadn't looked lately, there's a lot of posts around here to go looking for one specific one that may be buried in a thread somewhere.

Sure, there's Search, but I've used it a few times and not found it overly helpful, since "SeaSkimmer" and "French" would probably bring a ton of hits.

Hmmm......I was just answering his post, he never said anything about having no prior knowledge of how history would unfold. I feel I could do better than the French Command, I never said it would be impressive nor did I tout myself as some military expert and i would probably be beaten in the end, Im not a soilder by anything other than fantasy, and thats all I was engaging in.

Also , your engaging in some rather broad generalizations about me all gleaned from a few offhand , and not even all that important quips about the French. Why? I've never attacked you personally, told you your ignorant or even called you a moron, why so defensive and hostile towards me of all folk on this board?

As far as I can tell, and I'm sure I'm just asking for a "Fuck you " or further put downs from him by saying this, he feels that slamming the French and their more recent war and foriegn policy record is somehow a slight on the lives of the millions of dead french soilders from the past. On top of that its necessary to put down anyone who thinks otherwise, much easier than writing out a formal rebuttal to my personal views on a subject of supreme unimportance in the grand scheme of things. But its far easier to tell me I'm a moron, ignorant and to shut up .

Yep, you probably will get slammed for this. Normally, I wouldn't go for such obvious flame baiting, but in this case, I'd side with you. I mean, it's a JOKE for Pete's sake! Just like all the American/British jokes regarding saving their ass in two World Wars and beating them in Independance and 1812 Wars. Could that put down those who died in the wars and both sides? Sure. Does anyone care? Not really. It's a joke, not meant to be taken seriously. Get over it.

PS: since Darth Wong seems to take part in French surrender jokes, I'd say they're here to stay, though that may, of course, change. :)

Ah... That would make sense then, if true (not doubting you, but unless I see it, I don't believe it just 'cause someone said so. I am, sadly, growing far more cynical each day, thanks to the idiots my school calls administration)...

Been over that as well. I've dared people to name a situation when the French surrendered and another army would fight on and accomplish more then to die. No one did so.

I have no less than three muslim families living in my school community. One of their sons is a moderately good friend of mine. None of them consider themselves to be in danger.

Just making an observation there. The opinion was in another post. Though, reading the original one (thanks for the link, by the way. Much appreciated), I suppose I'll reconsider what I said. You do have a point, at least in regards to all French Military History being bashed. Still, some jokes about it can be told, in my opinion. Not to discredit the French as a whole, but hey, there are all sorts of jokes about nations as a whole, and the French just happen to have that one (in addition to the lack of bathing bit, which I'd love to know where that came from).

So, in short, I see your point, even though I am of the opinion that you can still tell some jokes about it. Gotta have a sense of humor and all. And sorry for maybe seeming unduly harsh in my opinionated reply. I still hold the same general opinion, but after reading your original post and thinking about it, I'd take away the harsher language. But then, I've been called a nice guy, sometimes to my discredit.

Think before you rant.

The French have more balls than the Americans.
Think before you take a quote out of context. The US wasn't interested in getting involved in another European War. There's a difference between that and cowardice.

As I've also said, casual comments or occasional threads don't bother me. It’s the sustained effort that pisses me off. That last thread for example came during a period of extremity when we had multiple active threads, much like we do now.

I don't see any too active French bashing threads aside from this one, though maybe I'm just forgetting. Probably am. Oh well, old age is hell. :)

Though I do concede that I've seen this one a number of times on this board, so yeah, this particular "Military History" bit is rather overused.

I just took it that anyone who would jump to quash a silly thread , such as the one I posted from "Ernies House of Whoop Ass", so readily would have more motive than defending the honor of a bunch of corpses. I mean , you've continued at times even after I've stated that I bash France for the decisions of today and not because I want to marginalize France's butchers bill in any way. Sorry if I generalized about you as well, I still never went out of my way to insult you.

everybody who´s never been to france and is bashing them shut the fuck up!

france is a nice country, the population is friendly in general and they´ve got loads of nice, slim (at least in the south where they have to work out because they have to run around half naked all the time due to hot weather) girls.

France is cool!

I do not disappoint.

If someone has something bad to say about the French government, that's okay. They can have their damn turn in the barrel, and mocking their historical whoopsies is fine too. Hell, if you want to pluck any one French person out of the mix and poke fun at them for their bad choices, go nuts. Rest assured that the French get a shitload of mileage out of snickering about what doofuses American politicians can be, and what cultural klutzes its tourists can be, so the sword swings both ways.

BUT: I know people who have ancestors that died alongside American soldiers in the Second World War and they are very proud of the part their people played in helping to fight back after everything else went teats up. I know plenty of French people today who are not afraid of military service or of fighting for their own country, but who couldn't give a rat's dirty ass about Iraq and other things that are considered 'America's Problem'.

I haven't seen any 'we should eliminate the French' or 'all French people are cowardly assholes' sentiments like there have been on other threads, but I will personally crisp the first SOB that tries it.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.
