Well, George Carlin is dead, so I wonder what they're going to do about Rufus. Or the fact that's its been 20 years since the second film, and no sign of the paradise that Bill & Ted's music was supposed to create.

Its a movie, it doesn't have to be 'our' universe. They could do the movie 20 years into paradise with that fictional world threatened.

Is there enough nostalgia for the 90's to sustain a sequel to some movies that were kind of forgotten?

There was apparently enough nostalgia for the 60s to do Avengers and Get Smart movies, not to mention three Mission Impossible ones or Lost in Space, for the 70s do do Charlie's Angels (twice), Shaft and Starsky and Hutch, or for the 80s Miami Vice. In case you haven't noticed, Hollywood is big on nostalgia movies this past 15 years or so
