Hank Skinner awarded stay of execution

Post by Darksider »

Yeah. You heard that right. They have had DNA samples for ten years, and never ran them during the original trial.
The fuck? Do they not want the DNA to make them look bad or something, or do they just think that some dude's life isn't worth the cost of a DNA test?

That's Texas —where they won't let facts or truth or innocence get in the way of a good execution.

Probably both. Because obviously the execution of an innocent man is a lesser evil than some District Asshole looking bad, which cannot be allowed under any circumstances.

It might erode faith in the criminal justice system if prosecutors and police officers were found to be fallible.

Therefore, withhold potentially exculpatory evidence :V

Do DNA samples have a practical shelf-life past which you can no longer test them effectively? It surprises me that we can do tests ten or twenty years after the fact and still get meaningful results, though I suppose we may be doing it on stuff that's been in a deep-freeze all that time or something.

Yeah. A -80 C freezer is a wonderful thing.

Stay on target, Alyrium; you can chat about that case in a separate thread if you wish.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Hey, I mentioned it because a stay of execution is a bad day for the right wing ;)

If you would like to split the thread, so the case can be discussed in more depth... :luv:
