Who is the greatest director of all time?

Francis Ford Coppola (Godfather Trilogy, Apocalypse Now).

Alfred Hitchcock (The Birds, North by Northwest, Rebecca, Vertigo, Psycho).

Steven Spielberg (Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Indiana Jones, E.T., Close Encounters, Jaws, The Color Purple, A.I.).

Stanley Kubrik (Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Doctor Strangelove. 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket).

EDIT: I guess for greatest director I'd have to say Kurosawa. Or maybe Scorcese. But really, this is one of those things where it's better to have a list than one single guy.

Of the three choices, I picked Hitchcock.
But for the greatest ever, D.W. Griffith! Birth of a Nation was the feel good comedy sensation of the century! :D

And what about Quentin Tarantino? And he is not only director, he also co-writes (if there is such a thing) the plot. Pulp Fiction has great dialogues. I liked Spielberg vey much when i was a kid, but now...
And i can't remember his name right now, but the one who directed SNATCH.

I chose Spielberg, mainly because I loved Saving Private Ryan.
Indiana Jones and the first Jurassic Park we're also brilliant.

Well, Spielberg is now cursed by a witch doctor, so he might die soon. :roll:

I like many different movies that those directors have done, so I cannot really choose. I would say that Spielberg is the most iconic, however.

Have you ever seen that film about his life with Johnny Depp as Wood? It's almost comedy that guy's entire life, and people wondered why he was so crap.

But out of that list, I'd go Hitchcock, but then I have no firm fave director but Hitchy here is regarded as the master of film.

i havent seen the godfather trilogy but i didn´t like apocalypse now that much.
don´t like spielberg. spielberg´s got too many whiny movies.
